I have built a house using a combination of stone ,straw and turf in a remote part of county galway.the house consists of two roundhouses with reciprocal frame roofs connected together with an A-frame roof.the roof is supported by douglas fir posts set in the ground with round timbers used for the henges and rafters.these are cladded with slobs from a local sawmill and turf has been placed over a pond liner to finish the roof.the walls are of straw bale on a stone stem wall and are plastered with lime were bought second hand and the doors were made by a local carpenter.the house is watertight and closed in except for the eaves and the door glass.there are three levels in the house with 14 inches difference in elevation to each.i started in june 2012 doing most of the work myself, hiring some friends for the heavier lifting and using volunteers for the abour intensive parts. With the help of a friend the interior walls and floors are framed.I am seeking help with the interior finishing, walls floors, tiling, painting, cleaning, exterior painting and footpaths.
