Description of land and geographic region:

It is located at the border of Hunedoara County with Caras-Severin. Altitude: 900m, a top of a hill in the Poiana Rusca Mountains, surrounded by pastures and forests, with clear views 360 and to Retezat Mountain. Warm in the summer with a soft Mediterranean influence, at 7km from the center of the nearest village (were the market, pub or medical center is), with complex access mainly during raining season. The land is approximately 10ha divided in 2 plots: one of 8 and other of 2ha. The 2 ha is what in permaculture is identified as "zone 5" - wild zone. The 8 ha is mainly pasture, forest and orchards, and is also where the 2 Gardens are implemented (totalizing less then 1 ha).

Description of farm: 900 Permaculture LLC is a integrated living and learning center in a community project. We aim to contribute to the self-sustainability of the community by producing food adapting species to local climate and preserving seeds and also by organizing workshops and events related with permaculture and organic farming. Is part of the Romanian Permaculture Research Institute and aspiring members of Global Ecovillages Network Europe.

What is grown/cultivated on the farm:
Wood, hey, orchard (apple, walnuts, hazelnuts, plums, cherry-trees, pears) and in the garden a wild variety: potatoes, sunflowers, onions, garlic, 10 species of salad, broccoli, zucchini, horse radish, other types of cabbages (red, white, summer, winter types), beat roots (red and others), tomatoes, beans (several types), carrots and other roots. We also take care of 6 bee hives.

Size of farm (approximately): 10 ha.?

Months when you accept volunteers: May, June, July, August, September

Description of volunteer activities: maintaining the garden, cropping, preserving seeds, preparing seedlings, seeding, composting, mulching, applying best practices in organic and permaculture gardening. Mandatory if not previous experience: 1 day Introduction to Permaculture @ arrival. Participate at the workshops held at the venue.

Volunteer accommodations: Tent site, compost toilets, sun showers, washing machine. A barn is nicely refurbished and insulated to host 4 long-rearm volunteers. Time expected to finish: 2015.

Description of family (if applies): Aurora Community is a intentional community project. In 2014 are 6 the members of this projects.

Pets: Two cats and dogs (for now).

Special dietary considerations (vegetarian, etc.): This is mainly a vegetarian site. Very rarely we use milk, chess or eggs, all from local producers (neighbors), all produced under organic precepts.

Additional comments: We deeply appreciate if no meat, alcohol, tobacco or any other "numbing" products are brought on site.
Thank you!
