We are a local peace and justice organization on the Caribbean coast of Colombia that has a farm used for organic production, educational purposes, and that we are developing as an eco-tourism project. We are in the rolling, savanna eco-system in the province of Sucre, just outside the city of Sincelejo. Our farm was once used for cattle grazing and much of it was over-grazed and degraded, but other parts still had some old trees. Since 2013, we have been protecting the native trees and planting more. The farm is now filled with trees. We have orange and lime trees, guanabananas, mangos, nisperos, and other tropical fruits. We also have a small worm bed to produce humus. We have 2 ponds and have some animals (chickens, dogs, cats, turkeys, red-footed turtles, and a Grey-bellied night monkey named Martino, who is totally free, but shows up each night for a treat. We have also howler monkeys, anteaters, armadillos and sloths on the property which is amazing since the area around us is pretty denuded and since we are so close to the city.
We are looking for a hard-working, friendly, willing person(s) to help. In the rainy season (April through November) we plant trees (woody and fruit),work in the vegetable garden, create a medicinal plant garden and a butterfly/hummingbird garden, and do other little projects. In the dry season (December through March or April) we water the trees, prune, weed, work on the trails, collect and dehydrate medicinal plants, etc. This is a good fit for someone with interests in organic farming, alternative technologies, natural medicine, and peace and justice. Carpentry skills would be great too since we have so much wood from pruning the trees. We also have a beautiful black bamboo. Right now we are especially looking for people to work on the trails we have created for an eco-tourism project: building benches, creating handrails and steps using the local wood pruned from the trees, painting signs, etc. We would also love someone who is a bird watcher to do a kind of bird inventory.
You must speak basic Spanish to communicate with the wonderful peasant family who lives on the farm. They have a room in their house for volunteers with its own nice bathroom and bunk bed. She charges 5.000 pesos per meal and can accommodate it if you are vegetarian, etc. Sembrandopaz does not provide meals in exchange for your volunteering; only lodging. You can also stay in our rustic cabin and prepare your own meals. We also appreciate that people do not drink or use drugs. We do not have wi-fi at the farm.

Most of the work gets done in the morning and late afternoon, so you can expect to do that and then have a nice siesta after lunch or read, learn to carve cups and bowls from Totumo gourds, or lounge about in a hammock. Sincelejo is only 10 minutes motorcycle ride away in case you need to do errands or shopping.(Many motos drive by the farm or we can give you the phone number of a reliable moto taxi. The moto taxis charge $5.000 for the ride).
Visit our facebook page link above or our webpage ( to see some photos of the farm and the peace and justice work we are involved in. Thanks!
