The next opportunity is from September 1st for 4 weeks to 12 months or more.

IMMEDIATE and ANYTIME: For foreign helpers already in the UK you would be welcome to join us for a day working in the garden or at the farm. A good chance to practice your English alongside native speakers. We are 1 hour by train from London, 10 minutes from Brighton, and you can choose any day that you are free to join us.

We have been growing Japanese and English vegetables since spring 2005, starting with just half an acre of land. In 2018 we will continue our drive for self-sufficiency on our 60 acre site at a beautiful and very peaceful location near Cooksbridge, with many wild birds and wild animals for company!. We use hand tools, including scythes, but also tractor-pulled machinery for seed bed preparation. No artificial fertilisers and no pesticides or herbicides are used - our methods seek to allow nature to do as much of our work as possible using farmscaping for beneficial insects and simple agroforestry techniques. Our vegetables are grown only in season, mostly outside under the sun to allow plants to develop the best flavour and nutrition.
We supply up to 250 vegetable boxes per week in peak season and deliver to top restaurants in London.

We value honesty, enthusiasm and hard work - experience is not essential. We seek people with a genuine interest in learning and - from March to November - ready for 30 to 40 hours a week with some early morning starts. Usually 2 or 3 consecutive days off per week (hours and days are flexible). In return we provide first class accommodation and good healthy food. You will have your own room in our 15th century house in the small town of Lewes. As well as passing on our knowledge of growing vegetables, we can help you with written and spoken English and Japanese, or just help you see more of the English (and Japanese) way of life. Our experience of starting and developing our own business from scratch is potentially useful for anyone planning to start their own farm.
