Skipper of 1930's traditional wooden sailing lugger has recently purchased land in south west Ireland on a small island called Bere island in the very beautiful and rugged Beara penninsula. We are hoping to go fully sustainable in food and shelter. Lee is also preparing sailing boats to fish under sail with and happy to have keen volunteers he can share his building skills with.
We have erected a yurt so far and accomodation for helpers in recycled liferaft tents. We are clearing and draining overgrown, wet land to prepare allotment plots for growing food. volunteers will have to contribute to their own food costs until we have enough food growing to feed people. we need volunteers to help work the land including building stone walls, moving equipment, making compost toilets, digging veg plots. We have plans to build a water wheel and keep chickens, goats, bees and a cow.
It's not all hard work however so we've got plenty of toys to keep people entertained including sailing, kayaking, fishing boats as well as foraging trips on this beautiful island.

We work hard and play hard so we have a dynamic of mutual respect, fair exchange and determination to achieve ambitious projects. You can learn a lot here but need to put in hard work in return. No previous skills needed but an interest in sailing, boats and self sufficiency with bags of enthusiasm and courage is ideal!
As we have no internet, please call Lee for a chat.
