Lush extensive tropical garden in the beautiful green cassowary coast region, nestled at the foothills of the rainforest covered Basalik Mountain Range. Working cane farm and exotic fruit orchard mostly replanted after cyclone damage. Comfortable accommodation in your own room in farm house with host family. Some gardening/house duties or general farm work like tree planting & weeding. Suitable for people who have had some farm experiences before, gardening and enjoy the quite life as its in the country and not really suitable for city folks who do not like to get their hands dirty. Having your own transport is a good advantage as Mission Beach, Innisfail & Tully, are a half hour away, one and a half hours to Tropical Cairns city and the beautiful Atherton Tableland. Work is for 4/5 hours daily with all meals and bed, some meals can self cater with all ingredients supplied. The work hours are not too structured as if you want days off to go places we can work it out. The household consists of husband and wife team, Margaret and Gid Fontana, Two farm dogs (friendly) and birds. We have had overseas backpackers before the cyclones when we were picking fruit. The farm has still a lot to offer and the gardens are a sight to see. We do sign off days for 2nd year visa. Can meet the bus At Silkwood turnoff, but the only bus that stops here is Premier or Greyhound at Innisfail or Mission Beach. We will be looking for some help in August and early September as once again we will be holding a High Tea and garden party for Lifeline on the 5th September. As a lot of cleaning, weeding, potting and general farm work has to be done we need good and reliable workers as there is a lot of work. Close to the time, we have chairs and tables to set out, Tents and marquee to erect, displays to arrange and food to cook. Family and friends come to help set up as well on the day a lot of running around and work
