NEED HELP JULY 7th-20th. Our farm is operated by a New Zealand farmer living in Canada - what does this mean? it means grass, grass and more grass!!! 2014 is an exciting time for Earth's Harvest Farm as we enter our forth season and begin managing our new 100 acres for our cows, lambs, goats, chickens and turkeys. Trained in agriculture in New Zealand, preferring dairy at the time, I spent 2 years in England on a farm, returned to New Zealand to farm then moved with my Canadian wife to Canada. Interestingly, I lasted less then a year on a dairy farm outside of Toronto. Flash forward 7 years, 2 kids and our second home later and I was ready to begin farming my way! We used chicken tractors, or ‘grazing tractors’, to intensively graze and fertilize about 3 acres of land over two seasons. This season we are beginning to reap the benefit of that work as lovely green pastures are emerging from winter slumber. This season we own the land so we are completing construction on the barn, having a solar well installed and completing the fencing of the land. Our garden has expanded from our backyard raised-bed system to the freshly fertilized pasture which hopes to offer a bountiful harvest of potatoes, tomatoes and various other rare and unique heirloom veggies. We are also beginning to incorporate permaculture principles to the garden this year which promises to be extremely insightful. We have a lovely one-bedroom with bath/shower available that is separate from our main home. The property has a salt-water pool, play area for children, fire-pit and recreational trails. We are located 45 mins south of Ottawa and 10 minutes from a major shopping centre. We’d love to have you stay and experience what life is like on our organic farm. We GUARANTEE you will learn a lot about this type of farming and get a good sense of both Canadian and New Zealand culture from us. Hope to see you!!
