Welcome to the jungle! We are a private conservation area (Área de Conservación Privada - ACP) in the San Martin region. Our ACP is 14 hectares of restored tropical forest, conveniently located 15 minutes away from Tarapoto's city center and airport. Legally recognized as an ACP in 2010, we have been working hard to protect this ecosystem from urban sprawl. Fresh, cold water gurgles up from a spring on our land and the restored vegetation keeps that water flowing and uncontaminated. Our property is home to over 500 species of trees and 100 species of birds throughout the year. Monkeys, toucans, and possums migrate through our forest, and a small family of water turtles live in our spring. We hope to lead by example and prove to the surrounding communities that it is possible to coexist with nature without plundering her resources.

We have six bungalows that we use for ecotourism. Guests come for yoga retreats, detoxes, Reiki initiation, vegetarian cooking course vacation, medicinal plant retreats, and activity packages like trekking. We focus on healthy living through yoga and a balanced, natural vegetarian diet.

We are ranked #1 of 82 in our category in TripAdvisor.

We are looking for a person that can create a webpage on WordPress.

AND

We are looking for a couple who would like to work in the kitchen preparing wholesome, vegetarian cuisine for our guests. Ideally, one person is a good cook and the other will be assistant cook.

We usually host small groups of two to four people and groups of 7 to 14 people once in a while.

We welcome:

We want volunteers with initiative and who work well without supervision. We expect volunteers to help out with daily chores around the ACP - cleaning, cooking, raking, sweeping, etc. Volunteers can expect to learn a variety of new recipes from Johanne. She is a source of knowledge on food preparation and the use of different superfoods for a healthy mind and body.

We are looking for a couple willing to stay at least two weeks. Work schedule varies depending on if there are guests or not. When there are guests, work is from breakfast to dinner for the duration of the retreat. When there are no guests (about 50% of the time), work day is 6 hours and we offer two days off a week. If there are groups staying longer than 5 days, then the days off are accumulated and can be taken once the guests have left.

Ideally you speak Spanish.

We offer free room and board. You will prepare your own meals.

Tarapoto offers various forms of outdoor recreation such as hiking, mountain biking, and rafting for your days off. It also offers most modern amenities such as movie theaters, internet cafes, grocery stores, and international cuisine.

About us: Johanne and Armando, a Canadian/Peruvian couple, manage this piece of paradise. Johanne is originally from Montreal, Canada and is a certified yoga instructor and Reiki master. She is an avid cook and deeply interested in nutrition. Armando, a leader in Peru's conservation movement, is originally from Lima. He spent many years living in the Cusco area working as a professional photographer, tourist guide on the Inca Trail, and as a rafting guide. Thirty-four years ago he fell in love with a beautiful piece of property near Tarapoto, and the rest is history. Since then, Armando has made protecting Tambo Ilusión, its forest, and its water source his mission. He has many interesting stories to share about his adventures concerning his beloved, beautiful, and diverse country, Peru.

We invite you to come stay with us, exchange ideas and skills, learn about conservation in Peru and enjoy the beautiful natural setting away from the hectic bustle of city life!
