12 hectare small semi-organic farm with sheep, horses, chickens, one cat and cattle. Lots of projects always underway involving building, pasture maintenance/weeding, garden maintenance.

Currently we need help with 1) pasture weed control which may involve either digging them out or spraying (safely) (thistles and blackberry):) 2) gardening; 3) building projects; 4) painting stables.

We raise our own organic beef, have eggs from our own chickens when laying and have some fruit/nut trees and vegetable garden. There are plenty of native birds around our property and beautiful views across Lake Rotorua to Mount Tarawera. We sometimes bake our own bread, make yoghurt and have some experience with permaculture. We try to live and farm sustainably.

If you are practical and friendly, enjoy helping, cooking and sharing, and would like a social farming experience, get in touch. Non-smokers, drug-free people only please.

We are well-travelled and enjoy meeting and hosting international visitors. French and English spoken.
You will either live with us or in self-contained, farmstay rental accommodation (depending on whether we have a single, couple or a group staying). Our arrangements will vary depending on whether you are living in with us or using the farmstay accommodation.

Work is 4 hours per day in return for 3 meals per day and accommodation. Often people like to work 6 hours a day for 5 days and have 2 days off. Work is usually outdoors, but can also include household work... it's good if you have your own gumboots/waterproof footwear. You should provide your own toiletries and personal items and any special food you require (e.g. gluten-free or soy/almond milk). You are expected to keep your room tidy and help with dishes/meals which is not regarded as part of your daily work... it's just being part of a family. Please let us know when applying if you have any allergies or special dietary conditions as this may affect the running of our household.

We are 10-15 minutes drive from the centre of Rotorua and 5 minutes to Zorb, Agrodome, Rainbow Springs etc. We prefer you to have your own car, but we can pickup from town, and go in to town a few times per week. We have two bicycles if you don't have your own transport.

Although occasionally there may be a space for HelpX guests available at short notice, most people contact us at least 2-4 weeks before they would like to come as Rotorua is a popular destination. Our preferred stay is 1-2 weeks.

The website link shows the self-contained farmstay accommodation that our helpers may have the use of during their time with us (if it is not rented out). Otherwise you will have your own comfortable bedroom in our house and share the family bathroom. As part of the Helpx experience, we expect that you will eat with us for most meals.

The photos show our pre-schooler feeding her pet lamb last year; hay-making during summer; the living-room of the sunny, warm private guest accomodation (also available for rent); our cattle; view from a ride around the farm; and some young friends enjoying a farm ramble.
