Cahaya Mutiara Ubud is a local foundation established by and for people with physical disabilities. Our goal is to help our members develop personal and physical skills to become self-reliant. We currently have 29 highly inspirational members, 8-10 of whom live on site while others come and go. We have a common kitchen, dormitories for members, one private room for volunteers with a double bed (we have extra mattresses if needed), art gallery and spacious classroom with fitness equipment, weights, sewing machines, musical instruments and meditation area. We also have 1000 square meters of land dedicated to organic gardening. We grow local vegetables and fruit tress such as papaya, banana, jack fruit and coconuts. We also have one lovely cow, a cat, chickens and ducks.
We would like to invite anyone who can give us a helping hand. You will have the opportunity to experience community life while learning about Balinese culture and be treated like family. We provide 3 meals a day (home cooked Indonesian food)
IMPORTANT UPDATE :
DUE TO NEW REGS BY THE INDONESIAN GOVERNMENT REGARDING VOLUNTEERING AND VISAS WE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO PROVIDE NON-INDONESIANS WITH ACCOMMODATION IN OUR FOUNDATION ANY LONGER UNLESS YOU CARRY A SOCIAL/CULTURAL VISA. (WHICH REQUIRES YOU TO BE SPONSORED BY AN INDONESIAN CITIZEN).AND YOU MUST APPLY FOR THIS VISA FROM OUTSIDE OF INDONESIA BEFORE ENTERING THE COUNTRY !!!
SORRY ALL, this was not our idea but generally will/should apply to all future host/helper arrangements, particularly when the host is officially registered with government agencies, like we are. NEVERTHELESS WE STILL NEED YOU, SO PLEASE DON'T ABANDON US NOW!!!
Therefore, in case you still like to stay here with us we can offer you a new arrangement in which you would be able to rent a room with a nearby local family, but the cost of Rp. 100,000 (Aus$ 10)/night for short term rental needs to be covered by you. All meals, drinks, fun and laughter are still available for sharing right here in our Foundation.
We also have had volunteers stay in Ubud and come work with us via a rented scooter. This is an option but please inquire about cost/availability first.
Generally - we love your assistance for:
Maintenance, watering plants during dry season, composting, collecting and storing seeds, and bringing new ideas to improve our garden.
Designing and building grey water systems, rain catchment, bio gas etc
English, music, art, basic graphic/website design, Microsoft Office, Photoshop or any other lessons you would like to teach our members.
Everyone at the foundation helps with cleaning and cooking duties.
We are located 15 km north of Ubud in the village of Tampaksiring. You can look us up in Google maps 'Cahaya Mutiara' for directions.
