Help create an eco retreat in a traditional Andaluz hill village.
We are Nikki (44) and Björn (38), an earth-loving couple originating from Jersey and Germany. Nikki arrived and fell in love with Andalucía 13 years ago. Björn fell in love with Nikki and came here two years ago. We have both left corporate careers - Nikki, an accountant turned artist photographer and natural therapy practitioner, and Björn, an air traffic controller - to explore a more holistic and sustainable lifestyle.
The 'pueblo blanco' of Canillas de Albaida nestles in the foothills of the Sierra Tejeda and Almijara National Parks. The flavour of life here is fresh, vibrant and colourful. Enjoy the seasonal palette of sunkissed local food, many fruits and vegetables cultivated in the village on the ancient Moorish terraces. Wake up to the clip clop of a mule in the morning and the horn of the fish-man delivering fresh fish. Take a deep breath of fresh mountain air, real tradition and authentic Spanish lifestyle.
It is a setting that inspires us every day to live healthy, simple and conscious.
We are seeking help to restore two very old village houses, now reformed into one, to create an open space to inspire and support people who are considering leaving the current ego-centred 'system'. We plan to achieve this via retreats, incorporating yoga, art & photography, shamanic and body work, foraging & making medicines. In short, reconnecting people to Mother Earth, our Mother.
We believe that collaboration is the way forward, love learning from each other and are looking for your help and your talents to add to our success story.

We are looking for non-smoking, eager, easy going folks who have experience in renovating, building, painting and gardening. We also need help in other areas so please look at the list below or be inventive with your suggestions and perhaps there is something you can contribute.

Painting: Sand and paint wooden windows and metal rejas; scrape, prepare and paint interior walls and exterior walls.

Building: Render garden concrete walls, restore old stone walls.

Gardening: Pruning shrubs, weeding and transplanting self-seeded trees, replacing irrigation system.

Miscellaneous: General cleaning, including restoring terrazzo floors. Sharing cooking and kitchen duties.

Computer work: Assistance with website and marketing.

In exchange for 5 hours work a day, you will have your own room with shared house bathroom, unlimited hot water, full use of kitchen and garden, patios and roof terrace. Bedlinen and towels are provided.
We are happy to provide basic healthy food, organic where possible, for breakfast and lunch, fresh mountain water, herbal teas and coffee.

When the work day is done, there are plenty of recreational opportunities: hike and bike up and down from mountain to sea, kayak away (the coast is 19km away) and savour the breathtaking sunsets.
The village is well-served with four restaurants and bars, three grocery stores, pharmacy, tabac, ferretería and bank. The nearby larger town of Cómpeta (a 20 minute walk along the goat track) offers a gym, swimming pool, more shops, restaurants and night-life.
Málaga is the nearest city and international airport - an hour's drive away - it also has great rail and bus links. There are 3 buses a day between Málaga and Canillas de Albaida.
