////// Availability - We have no availability now until February 2106 ///// Hi - We are a family - One child, one dog, one cat and two goats! - near to Goat Island, Leigh, around an hour north of Auckland. We have a beautiful section of pasture land and native bush which we operate on organic principles and have space for up to 4 helpers to help us on our projects. We are around 10 mins walk from Goat Island marine reserve and beach, a couple of km from the Leigh Sawmill venue and 3km from the lovely seaside village of Leigh. We are looking for helpers who are not shy of some physical work for 4 hours a day in exchange for accomodation and meals. Most days we try to get most out the outside work done early before the heat of the day kicks in. On occasion you may choose to do 8 hours one day and have the following day free to explore the area. We are looking to build an earth house and some smaller buildings using natural building techniques of Cob, Strawbale construction and green roofs etc. There will be opportunity for hands-on experience of working with natural buildings and materials. In addition to the natural building there are various other jobs around the land which we will be working on such as fencing, clearing land, collecting firewood etc. Here's a summary of some projects we are currently working on: - Natural building with earth and straw bale - Fencing to create a paddock for sheep and goats - Clearing land and collecting firewood - Making tracks and trails through the native bush - Establishing a permaculture based vegetable garden Accomodation is either in a comfortable sleep-out with a double and single bed or in our small native american teepee. We can cater for vegetarians. We do not accept smokers. There is a guest wifi you can access but we are on limited bandwidth so streaming / torrents etc are not allowed. Your own transport is advisable but we will collect helpers from Warkworth, which has public transport links to Auckland. The local area - all within 30mins drive - contains many vineyards, spectacular beaches, walks, restaurants and farmers markets for you to explore. We look forward to hearing from you.
