We have a very small family-owned and operated vineyard and winery 5km from Havelock North in the sunny Hawke's Bay. It's a beautiful place next to the Tukituki river: lots of trees, grass, native birds etc. There are bike / walking trails right next to the property, several other wineries nearby, and Ocean Beach is 15 minutes and Waimarama 25 minutes drive away.
We're pretty friendly and relaxed; we can only speak English fluently, but we don't care how much English you speak. We're not vegetarian (but you're welcome to cook vegetarian meals), we don't smoke, and we have some chickens; the neighbours have dogs, and our chickens have a cat.
I've done a fair bit of travelling, both within NZ and around the world, and we are always keen to meet new people and exchange culture, knowledge, recipes and conversation.

We are offering accommodation and food in exchange for 4 hours work a day. Depending on when you arrive it could be vineyard work (most likely), helping in the winery, gardening, property maintenance or any of the other random jobs that come up with small-scale farming. You would also be expected to help with cooking sometimes and clean up after yourselves.

Accommodation is one bedroom with one double bed and one single bed. Bathroom facilities are shared with us. We have unlimited wifi, an espresso machine, and you can buy wine at mate's rates. There are plenty of books, board-games etc in case it rains, and you can use the piano and guitar as long as you treat them well.

If you are travelling alone, please let us know if you would be willing to share a room with another helpx traveller.

Having your own car is useful in Hawke's Bay, but we do have 2 bikes available for use, and we can pick people up from Hastings / Napier / Havelock North - so if you are reasonably fit then a car is not necessary.
