We have two stud farms; Kilbarry Lodge Stud which is set on 100 acres and Kilmeaden Stud which is set on 200 acres . We also have some Charolais cows, which you will help with.
You will work at Kilbarry Stud. There are stables, a walker, a covering shed and a lunging ring. A fulltime man works with the horses. You will work alongside him each day. The horses bred here are Thoroughbreds.
You will not be a part of the daily family life, so you must be independent.
Your daily duties will include feeding, mucking out, feeding the cattle, checking fields, sweeping yards, helping with young stock, etc. There may be riding, depending on your ability, and you’re insurance. You will help to train young horses. You will do maintenance work, trimming hedges, mowing grass, fixing and painting fences and gates, and other such tasks. You are unlikely to work with the stallions, but if you would like to find out about them do ask your host. You will be expected to work hard, get involved with the daily routine, and be a part of the team.
You will have your own room in the staff house, shared with the fulltime employee and any other students placed here. You will have to make your own meals, but we will supply you with funds to buy food and you can take one car for personal use. You must keep your room tidy and clean it before you leave at the end of the placement. You will work 40 – 45 hours a week.
We are looking for somebody interested in farm work.
