We are wanting people as we approach lambing time on the farm. Must love animals and love to cook.
Large family run sheep farm situated just east of Rakaia. Both children in their twenties are currently working on the farm. We are looking for enthusiastic, fun people who want the typical kiwi experience, with loads of sheep, chickens, dogs, cows, horses and one random goat called Tomtom that turned up one day. There is a range of jobs which we need a hand with, from working with the animals eg feeding, handling, cleaning out horse paddocks and so on, to painting, gardening and cooking(very handy if you are confident in the kitchen and can organize dinner), it could be anything really. Prepare for the unexpected each day will be different.

From July until September we are busy lambing, so there is loads of lambs to be feed and to be loved as well as shifting fences and feeding out hay. In September we are busy docking and vaccinating the lambs. We are also very involved with horses, where we compete in showjumping during the summer months. So anybody keen on horses, this could be a good place. We are currently working on our young horses braking them in to be ridden. There is the possibility of riding the horses if you have sufficient riding experience, as these are sport horses not trekking horses.

Helpers are expected to work an average of 4-5 hours per day (this is usually split throughout the day, so please communicate with us if you would just like to work the mornings and then go off and explore in the afternoon), with 2days off with a 1-2 week stay, but could be longer with the right people. Accomadation depends on how many helpers are here, single room in the house, the and A sleep out down the yard. The location would suit somebody with their own transport, but this is not essential, however we are a busy family and cant always drop you off somewhere to explore. So somebody who is happy to spend time in a kiwi family environment is helpful.

We are located within an hour from many attractions such as Mt hut (good ski field), rivers, lakes and scenic walks, our biggest and closes town is Ashburton, a lovely quiet town with everything you need, and a lovely lake, we are an hour from Christchurch, and 45min from the airport, While we treat people like part of our family here we still expect you to go out and explore if you have your own transport, please don't waste your time here sitting on your phone/computer. 15min from Rakaia, with a bus service to Rakaia.

Please note, summer is bad for giving people hayfever, if this is something you suffer from please come prepared this.
