UPDATE: We need volunteers for a composting and vegetable planting project! :) Beautiful time to be in Honduras with dry days but not too hot weather in the hills and mountains near us.

You will be working on a locally-owned, organic farm with a family of 4. Dario is the director of the local elementary/middle school and learned English while participating in a teaching fellowship in the United States. His wife, Orlenys, is also a teacher at the town's middle school.

Learn first-hand about sustainable agriculture and/or tutor English to middle-schoolers. You'll want to stay for awhile to soak in the local culture and participate in skill-sharing. The farm is the only experimental one in the region with over 50 kinds of fruits and vegetables growing. Lots of opportunities for getting your hands dirty! A great place to work on your Spanish as there are no other foreigners in the town. You will be working a maximum of 5 hours a day (farm and English tutoring/skill sharing combined), 5 days a week.

You will stay in a free, private room with a bilingual host in a small, mountain town. Room includes a powerful fan. Internet access is available through a phone hotspot or in the neighboring community at an internet cafe. Free purified water. Kitchen can be used (homecooked meals are available each for 80 lempiras/4 USD for meat and 70 lempiras/3.50 USD for vegetarian) and there are markets to buy basic goods. Daily vegetable trucks pass through the town. Homemade tortillas daily on an outdoor comal!

Halfway between La Ceiba and Tegucigalpa. This is definitely off the beaten track. 3 hours from Teguicigalpa, 4 hours from San Pedro Sula, 4 hours from La Ceiba (all times by bus). Near: a natural bridge complete with thermal shower(!), hikes to pine forests and coffee plantations, river with swimming holes.
