Liveloula is an organically growing homestead and an educational platform with a focus on peaceful, ecological and self-sustainable living. We are located at 750m high in the northern Peloponnese just outside the village Seliana. Our valley is rich in water, diverse in vegetation, we are surrounded by vast forests on stunning mountains, itís so beautiful!
Steven, a 36 year old Belgian, is a trained gardener with a main goal to create a food forest and Chenny, a 40 year old Dutch woman that worked in the past as a midwife and now has a specific interest in gardening and herbal medicine. Both of us are permaculture design certified.
When we started, the soils were highly degraded. On the terraces, little or no topsoil was hosting only the toughest little plants, the rest of the land there wasnít much more than grass and some bushes.
Now, we are cultivating parts of a 1,5 hectare plot, a lot of effort has gone and is going in building soil, adding loads of organic matter, sequestering carbon.
We are off grid and in the middle of the fields about a mile away from the village.
Power is generated with photovoltaics and we wish to one day build a hydro-electric system powered by a river nearby. Our drinking water comes from a spring and irrigation water is tapped from a stream higher up in the forest.
We are trying our best to keep our family of 50+ chicken happy.
Our main focus this year is to build a beautiful new hangout. Think cob and lime plasters, bottle walls, an earth floor, etc...
More targets for 2019, to build extra storage rooms and to welcome the first ever pigs on the farm!
All of the vegetables we eat are organic and home grown or wild picked.
Our all natural way of gardening shuns mechanical devices. This way, farming becomes a fun and dynamic hands on experience. Did we mention working the soil is healthy for body and mind?
We are looking for people that are interested for a long stay at our homestead, preferably stays with a minimum of 4 weeks and up to 6 months. Staying is camping in tents in wonderful little corners and niches of the gardens. We open up for volunteers in spring, summer and autumn.
This spring some of the work will be preparing the soil for the next growing season, seeding and planting. During the summer we will be doing more building projects and our focus will shift towards preserving food for winter (canning, dehydrating etc).
Staying at our off grid farm will give you a full experience in natural living at a homestead, you'd get to know how to build a tiny house, examine aspects of permaculture, have a chance to help create a food forest, learn about soil and water management, garden pattern design and home pharmacy.
We are looking for people that wish to shoulder our project, come to learn and inspire us.
Because we are really having a hard time getting the books in balance, we have to ask our volunteers a daily contribution of Ä2,50.
There is no way for us at this time to carry the extra expenses that volunteers bring.
We feel truly sorry having to ask and we hope our financial situation is going to change for the better.
We are confident though that the exchange of experience and knowledge, the peacefulness and comfort you will enjoy, and the amazing healthy food offered here will compensate richly for your contribution.
Your help will make the difference!
