CHANGE CHANGE CHANGE, Yes we are changing our ways of doing things here on SANTA PALOMA and want YOU to become part of it and to learn with us as we move forward.

South Africa is a very diverse country with many challenges and so we have to adapt to these challenges and manage our risk factor and that is where you as the prospective intern comes in.

We would like INTERNS to join us in running our operation. By doing so we will be sharing with people who are eager for learning and others that would like to share their knowledge with us.

We use REGENERATIVE and PERMACULTURE Farming methods and projects on the farm include the following:

Hatching of chicken eggs and rearing day old chicks until they go out to pasture
Pasture raised broiler chickens
Pasture mobile layers
Pasture raised pig systems
Meat rabbit breeding
Pasture fed Nguni cattle
Tilapia fish farming systems in either earth dams or aquaponic systems
Processing of the above protein sources
(some of you might be familiar with Joel Salatin's way of regenerative farming )

Non Animal systems include:
Compost making on a fairly big scale ( integrated with chickens and pigs )
Worm farming to produce protein for fish and chickens
A Kitchen garden to produce fresh organic vegetables for everyone living on the farm
A newly established fruit forest.

Other than farming activities on Santa Paloma:
We run an overnight accommodation establishment, teach outdoor education to school groups and present Permaculture Courses.

Maintenance and construction of systems are a given and gets done on a continuous basis

So what can you expect from us:
Myself - Jacques and Belinda, Gabriel and Jorja, Nadia and Morne, Ruan and Kylie and little Robbie, Oupa and Ouma, Manyano and Nande are all living on the farm and are involved in the activities.

We are all very down to earth people with sober habits that call a spade a spade, we do not smoke and do not do substance abuse and would like, like minded people to join us on our journey of producing PROPER ORGANICALLY GROWN FOOD in a Regenerative and sustainable way to MOTHER NATURE and all of us on our amazing planet.

Interns will be accommodated in shared dorm style with own ensuite and three meals per day (from the farm if possible) in exchange for approx. 5 to 6 hours of labour per day. A possible daily stipend can be negotiated for interns that really pull their weight.

Interns are invited to join us for a period of three months and after the initial period if it is agreed, they can stay longer and will then go onto a artisan programme for six months to a year. For those artisans that qualify, projects for their benefit will be established on our farm or adjacent farms.

So what kind of Intern are we looking for ??
1. Energetic people that are interested in any of the above mentioned projects to either learn or come teach us.
2. People with sober habit that would be prepared to respect our way of living and privacy.
3. Nature loving people that would preferably not smoke while on the farm.
4. Communication is obviously a major factor and we on the farm can all speak English fairly well so that would be an advantage if you can speak English.

If you are interested in joining us please do not hesitate to send me a e-mail for any questions .

Regards from the SANTA PALOMA Team in South Africa.
