Minimum Stay is 2 weeks.
We are a couple from czech+uk lived here for 20+ years and have 110 acre almost self sufficient farm set in the jungle with nearly 1 mile of jungle riverside, three miles from Hopkins Village a wonderful Garifuna cultural beach village and 1/4 mile from main road via farm road. We call it DQfunnyfarm because of the strange things we have and fun things we do.
20 acres are left to jungle for flora and fauna, 5 acres for livestock, 2 acres tropical fruiting trees and shrubs over 30 different types, also local root crops, vegetables and various others from time to time depending on seed availability. The rest was last used as rice farm by previous owner and is now shrubland for future development.
Livestock are dorper sheep,Brown swiss cows, tame and wild muscovy, Black bone chickens and other types, guinea fowl, rabbits, piggywiggy`s and four dogs...two live with the sheep, the other two guard around the house area.
We can help you learn about EM (effective microorganisms) we use it for everything. Better crop production, less cost, no foul or fowl odors or house flies. You can learn almost all aspects of running and living on a farm in the tropical third world even how to build your own computer. Everything is for fun.
We would prefer 25 to 45 ers and expect to help with anything needed around the farm and home which can change dramatically from day to day, 7 hrs work a day 6 days a week roughly...no schedule or clocks.
You would live in the wooden house which has electric, cooking facilities and bathroom. You will cook your own breakfast and lunches from farm produce as we do not eat breakfast or lunch. Eat and drink with us for dinner (mostly farm produce) and use our facilities, basically try to be a part of the family.
There are biting bugs outside and the temperature is around 90s during the day and 70s at night with humidity at 50 to 90%. There are no shopping malls. Our local village is three miles away and town 12 miles where you can get most things. Very quiet except for the jungle and livestock.
Our Idea of this helpx-change is for people who think they are interested in being self-sufficient or starting a farm in the tropics or just for knowledge/understanding to get hands on experience.....This means devoting mind, body and spirit in this exchange as we will devote ourselves to helping you. It is hard manual labour at times !!
If you can handle these things then we should have fun together and hopefully you will learn many things. We are living a simple lifestyle.
Things to bring for working/surviving: Long sleeve shirt, Long pants/trousers, mosquito repellant, sun block.
Best wishes
Dasha/Quentin
