Waipu Caves Lodge and "the Universitree" are to be established as a supportive refuge for self discovery and healing through a deep connection with nature.

Set amongst the majestic limestone formations and sacred underground passageways of Waipu Caves, the property rests on 14 hectares of native bush and pasture. The huge limestone cave system covers some four square kilometres and is home to millions of glow worms adorning the cavernous ceilings and freshwater koura in the chilly pools below.

A retreat centre, an arboretum and an outdoor experiential learning centre are to be established on the site. The Lodge will be home to ‘The Universitree’, a place where people will come as "disciples" of the trees in order to understand themselves and enter into a multidimensional and reciprocal learning process.

Our project is just beginning. Right now there is nothing on the land except the trees, the grass and the birds. This summer we will start making our dream a reality - and we need skilled help.

We will build a base camp, move a small cottage onto the property, set up water systems, start planting gardens, set up a solar power system etc.

You will enjoy the Northland summer staying in a large, well appointed “glamping” style tent. The nearby camp HQ will have power for charging devices, limited internet (it's cell based), hot water showers and compost toilet.

Healthy vegetarian food will be provided for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We will share the cooking. Please bring your own snacks, super foods and personal dietary requirements.

Alistair has hosted many working holiday travelers over the years and has lots of skills to share.
Here are some basic expectations:
* We would like you to help us out and be active around the property for 5 hours per day, 5 days per week.
* Please contribute to all aspects of life on the property that may be requested of you,
* We prefer to live consciously so prefer limited alcohol and no drugs.
* It's nice to get to know each other great when you choose to stay for a week or more.

Alistair speaks English and Caroline is also fluent with German and French.

We see this as a cultural exchange however please note that a working holiday visa for New Zealand may be required.

Staying with us will be best for people who enjoy being in nature and happy in there own company.

This is a magical place with beaches nearby and lots to explore. It is good to have your own car to get out and about. We are 13km from the nearest shop at Waipu township. It's another 10km or so for surfing. Whangarei is the nearest city 19km away.

We look forward to meeting you.
