13-acre smallholding 6 miles from Llanidloes with geese, pigs, orchard, large veg and fruit garden and small commercial flock of free range chickens.

Help-X volunteers help us with all aspects of the farm - vegetable growing, picking and preserving, collecting and packing eggs for sale and helping with livestock and firewood. Help-X volunteers get a double bedroom, lots of good home-made food, compost loo and the chance to get involved in the life of a diverse small farm enterprise.

Chris is an ex-wwoofer from Old Chapel Farm where we lived in 2010-11 before we moved here. We are passionate about making a family-friendly business out of our small farm and like to involve people and teach them new skills. We welcome Help-Xs who really want to get involved in farm life and who are enthusiastic and self-reliant.

Projects for 2015:

We currently have 70 chickens and are producing eggs for sale for two shops and several local customers.

We are getting back up to speed with our veg garden after a break while lovely baby Tess was born and are working towards producing some veg and salad bags for sale next year as well as being self-sufficient in our own veg and fruit as much as possible.

Our 7 kune kune pigs will be ready for the abattoir this autumn - we are hoping they will make good sausages! The 3 geese are mowing the newly planted orchard with their five goslings which we will be despatching for Christmas.

We are continuing to do all our own firewood from the mature hedgerows and need to build some firewood shelters, bring in, chop and stack seasoned lengths and get ready for this winter.

We would love to know what motivates you and what appeals to you abxout coming to Longhill. We give priority to help-xers who email us with details about themselves and show that they have read our extended description.
