Permaculture-Self sustainable Farm Living
(Caju and Ann-Kathrin)
We are a multi cultural family, Brazilian and German-Canadian. We are in our early forties and have three kids aged 20, 17, and 12.
Four years ago we drove our car from Canada to Brazil and worked on different farms along the way thru the helpx program. We learned and exchanged ideas about Permaculture and self sustainability. After we arrived in Brazil and bought land we decided to become hosts for the helpx program due to our positive experience.
Our farm is situated in a Natural Reserve area called Bananal, located 18 Km away from the beaches of Perube - SP.
Here we have begun our project. Using the idea behind observing and working with what is natural and unique to this landscape we are learning to grow local plants and fruit trees, as well as understand the forestation of the area, to best work with the land to support us and our animals.

Currently we are growing orchards of multiple fruit trees, such as jack-fruit, papaya, starfruit, goiaba, bananas, coffee, cacao, and limes to name a few, as well as vegetables in our garden.

We are using the concept of building green, by using local materials found on the land, such as different varieties of woods, bamboo and clay

. We have switched most of our toilets over to the dry toilet system in order to make less of an environmental impact, and use the compost to make fertilizer. Using the animal manure and composting systems to create fertilizer for our soil.

In the future we have plans to build a bio digester and hydro generator.

Caju is a Mestre of Capoeira and has been studying the art form for over twenty years. Ann-Kathrin has been studying yoga for the past 18 years and teaches internationally all levels of students, as well as teacher training.

We invite you to come stay with us during your travels and make work, learning and play part of your experience.
