A beautifully situated hill farm in the wooded Umbrian Appenines.
Work consists of clearing land, wood-splitting and stacking, kindling bundling, garden preparation, rock-walling, fencing, caring for horse and donkey, gardening, depending on season.
I`m converting the 400 year old farmhouse to as eco as possible, have 2.3KW photovoltaic and solar hot water, working on solar thermal addition and grey water separation.
Also setting up a yurt hospitality biz, plenty to do...
A love for listening and/or playing music will be a great advantage! Use of baby grand piano, drums, PA, mandolin, cello, bass, guitars and percussion. Recording facilities available.
Vegetarian household, big veggie garden.
The arrangement consists of 4 hours a day of work in exchange for board and lodging, 2 if donations are made towards food. Sundays off. Cleaning up after yourself doesn`t count as work hours!
Skills especially appreciated: carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrics, gardener, equine enthusiasts, website builder (mac, wordpress), and anything to do with home music studio, sound engineer, techie, luthier.
A sense of fun and love for animals are essential!
Last year was a great year. We had a blast and got a lot done. This year I will be open for guests from mid april on, so book in your time now. I look forward to meeting this year`s crop of helpers, working and playing together.
Singer-songwriters/Composers/Players especially welcome!
PS. Italy in summertime is host to various animal life that can be unfamiliar to city people. There can be lizards, mice, snakes, frogs, horse flies etc. Please don`t apply unless you are ready to experience wildlife and be philosophical about it!
Country life for those not used to it can come as a shock. If you are only used to highly controlled, safe environments, please think twice before applying. This is a home to us humans but has also been a home to many other species for much longer, we need to acknowledge and respect that, tread lightly and be continually mindful of Nature`s sometimes inexplicable ways.
Only come if you are willing to leave your comfort zone to become more resilient, not if you panic easily, are too nervous, or have illusions that the country is just like the suburbs with less cars! Here we harmonise with what is, we don`t try to sterilise, pave over or impose too much. It takes presence of mind and a calm disposition to have a successful stay here, (not just a work ethic and a love of music and animals. Hundreds have, there need be no problem, so if you have too many of your own, please be ready to leave them behind you and be open to anything unexpected.
Also we are far from hospitals, so please only come if you are in robust health and willing to try vegetarianism. We are vegans but can provide fresh eggs for those who need some animal protein sometimes.
We eat plenty of organic wheat here so if you are gluten-intolerant this is probably not the place for you.
We will be running percussion workshops the second half of September, so if interested get in touch.
We teach yoga, Reiki, meditation, vegan cooking, organic gardening, breadmaking, so please mention if you want to have personal classes in these things.
I also do musical lessons in Jazz theory, arrangement, composition, harmony and especially the art of songwriting.
If you want to sign up for these creative or restorative consultancies please let let us know in advance. Thanks, we look forward to meeting and sharing good times together.
