This is a cage-free pet resort for furkids since 1996. We are in the heart of Muskoka, 45 minutes drive from world renown Algonquin Provincial Park where you will want to hike trails, check out their visitor centre and maybe a little camping or canoeing tripping while you are here.

Muskoka is the National Cottage Country capitol with over a 1,000 pristine lakes. Our property has lots of ponds and is located in the spring-fed kettle lakes hills that supply fresh water to Lake of Bays. Just steps away from us are 4 small lakes with blue heron rookeries, where moose, whitetail deer and other wildlife come for a drink. Those who love watching wildlife in their natural habitat will love it.

There are lots of hiking trails you can simply walk out and enjoy. We have bikes and are 10 minutes drive from town, where you will find Algonquin Outfitters where you can rent canoes, kayaks and water boards from the downtown dock, slip into a pub or coffee shop afterwards. It's a great spot to spend some outdoors and downtime. During the winter there is an amazing ice track you can ice skate for 3km at Arrowhead Park... and nearby Hidden Valley has a great downhill skiing.

We also have rehomed a dozen Siberian Huskies from through Ontario's Humane Societies and other rescues, and we have built them a huge Sanctuary where they can run, play and swim too, and in the winter months, they enjoy one on one skijoring, kicksled, sprint sled team fun with us along for the ride too of course.

You can enjoy exploring nearby towns and villages such as Huntsville, Baysville, Port Sydney, Dorset, etc or be refreshed spending time at beaches or waterfalls park areas. There are a number of craft beer distilleries in the area and so many interesting tourist destination places to explore. It is recommended that you have your own vehicle or rent one from enterprise in town.

We have a new Resort Pavilion with a grooming room. If you are staying longer with us we can train you on the jobs with dogs and also grooming.

We are primarily looking for strong people to help with some heavy lifting to tidy the site. This would include, moving patio stones and other building materials, building fences and construction. Any skilled carpenters or builders are also welcome as we have a lot of new exciting projects on the go. We also need help shovelling snow, using the ATV to groom trails and using the snow blower. (As of the 19/02/2019)

We expect everyone to help with housework chores, cleaning, washing dishes, laundry, organizing, mopping, sweeping, etc. There are always jobs to do and lots of people living together so please if you see a job that needs doing just do it.

Food is excellent, we do a lot of vegetarian dishes. We have a lot of the extras that vegans are delighted to find in our larders. We are open to new culinary talents. We also enjoy if people want to cook for the group and expect everyone to help with the washing up/ cleaning. Serve yourself breakfast and lunch and we try to come together for a meal in the evening. Please let us know about any specific dietary needs before you arrive.

Be sure to check out our website and facebook. We have lots of photographs and it's a great way to learn some of the dogs' names that you will get to know during your stay.

As we are a cage free dog resort, there are a lot of dog park fences and gates that need maintaining, as well as other carpentry and building projects that are always ongoing.

There is always something going on to keep us all busy, we have a 'work hard, play hard' approach and will always try and make sure your skills and interests are put to good use!

In the helpers house we have a variety of rooms for helpers to stay. There is a triple/ quadruple room in the loft with its own bathroom. There is a single room on the main floor of the house using the shared bathroom along with a double with its own toilet. There is also another room for 2/3 in the basement. A main shared bathroom and living space and kitchen. In the summer we also have a wooden cabin (no heating) and using the facilities in the house. We have a lot of land here and there are some great shared areas where we will come together after a hard days work for meals or just to relax.

NEW- we have just opened a new cat resort at another property and are looking for 1/2 people with cat experience to help us look after the cats and run the cattery. You will live at Happy Tails and go each day to look after the cats.
