Update: We are seeking helpers from the end of April to the middle of May. If you can stay for a full month or longer, we will help with the cost of your ferry fare back from Kangaroo Island.
We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our family and to help us throughout the year.
Our 35 acre property is in a beautiful location on the Kangaroo Island tourist trail, quite close to the famous Seal Bay Conservation Park, Raptor Domain, & various other attractions.
We have self contained cabins for our guests and hostel accommodation for volunteers, a fully licensed restaurant/cafe, and a heritage-listed building (Kangaroo Island's original Post Office).
We love having volunteers from around the world to help us with the daily tasks here.
Our location is superb, approx 10 kms to the nearest of beaches, all are beautiful.
Duties and Requirements:
We have many tasks depending on your skills and abilities including cooking, cleaning, housekeeping, helping with our cafe, and general maintenance.
Will need to be self reliant, be willing to jump in and assist when necessary, be trustworthy.
Ideally, you need to have a good vocabulary of English
Food and Amenities:
The hostel is supplied with basic food, enough to eat well but does not include luxuries, these will be from your own pocket. (We supply, chicken, veg, rice, cereals, eggs, pasta, cheese, bacon, etc)
Our accommodation is a modest blue cabin that has four bunk beds and a large bathroom with a lovely shower.
You will be required to work for 5 hours per day, times may change from time to time and will be sorted out
Please note - our location is very rural --
We are located about 30 minutes drive from the main town, Kingscote, 7 minutes from Seal Bay, and 10 minutes from the gorgeous Vivonne Bay beach, 40 min from Flinders Chase National Park.
*THERE IS NO PUBLIC TRANSPORT - So you will either need your own vehicle, or you will be able to walk / ride to the local attractions on days off - and perhaps hire a car if you want to go to the other side of the island.
* Note mobile phone service on Kangaroo Island is patchy as most of remote areas in Australia are. Best coverage is provided by Telstra, or budget services such as Boost Mobile which use the Telstra network. If you are using the Optus network you will be able to get a signal for sending text messages from some places outside on our property. If you are with Vodafone, you will not get a signal at all.)
How to Get Here:
You can buy a ticket to Kingscote on Kangaroo Island from the Adelaide Central Bus Station that will include the ferry (from Cape Jervis to Penneshaw) or by air (from Adelaide to Kingscote). If you let us know your plans in advance we can help you find the best price fares.
This is a great opportunity to be on Kangaroo Island, enjoy learning new skills and being part of a friendly team in a very peaceful, natural environment.
If you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch.
We look forward to hearing from you :)
