Kia ora,
i live in a modest, cheerful townhouse in the lovely small city of Dunedin. My home is situated up a good sized hill (you might be better off with a car unless you really like walking - about a 15 min walk to Botanic Garden, 25 min to university, 30-40 min to town centre).
i have rather a small garden but i am slowly developing it - currently mostly planting, watering, weeding and digging up grass into new garden beds but am open to any other skills you might have! If you prefer to do indoor work like cleaning or cooking (i'm vegetarian) you are welcome to do that instead. I'm open to discussing what the trade might be - but basically i have a busy life, working full time as a gardener (i can teach you lots about native plants) and keeping up with friends, yoga, important beer drinking etc so having someone else around to help out is useful and gives me a chance to meet people from outside my usual circle. I usually just show people a few things around the house and garden that need done and leave it up to them to decide what they would like to do. Then i get on with my chaotic life, hopefully finding some chances to connect during their time staying. A couple of hours a day on average of your working time is more than enough - it's easier for me if you do your own cooking as i'm not always very regular with meal times, and i prefer to keep the kitchen vegetarian but i'm fine with some meat being cooked if you really want to!
The room you would be staying in is a small basement room with a double bed in it. it has its own entrance, so you have a bit of privacy, but unfortunately needs to be walked through to get to the washing machine so i would need to go in there from time to time.

Dunedin has many beaches to explore and small bush walks to enjoy. Without a car a lot of these activities become much more difficult to access, howeer! Dunedin has a great local music scene. I am happy to offer some advice on activities you might enjoy, though may be too busy to enjoy them with you. I tend to have a pretty packed schedule (as well as being rather messy, chaotic and lazy at times). This exchange would suit somebody who is keen for a relaxed stay in Dunedin where you are mainly left to your own devices but are happy to do some work around the garden and for me to be around making a slight mess and having the odd friend coming and going etc etc.
Oh - and i have two cats. They're pretty cool.
If this sounds like a situation you'd enjoy, come and stay for a couple of days or a week or two. I look forward to hearing from you and about you! Kate
