Update - We are now looking for volunteers for a number of requirements.

We have a friendly Nicaraguan family who will be hosting and running the lodge day to day, they have currently only basic English but are very keen to become more skilled in talking and working with guests and volunteers. Desirable experience and skills include cooking healthy but tasty food (working alongside our local cooks to improve their knowledge and skills in vegetarian world cuisine), we are always looking for people handy with building repairs, maintenance, electrics, engineering. We always have work in the garden for people with good experience and knowledge of gardening, planting, food growing, permaculture and tropical plants.

We are sometimes looking for people with experience in natural building, eco-projects, artistic projects, painting, landscaping, construction, website SEO, internet rankings, yoga teaching, dancing, juggling :-) ;-)

We are situated in a small established coffee farm in the Northern mountains above Matagalpa. The city is only a 20 minute drive away but it is a peaceful place near nature reserves and primary cloud forest so the wildlife and particularly the birdlife is abundant. We try hard to live in a fun, friendly and collaborative environment. We enjoy growing, cooking and sharing healthy, fresh food.We are looking for people who like to work hard with a smile on their face! We prefer volunteers to speak at least some beginners Spanish but intermediate and above is ideal.

From early 2020 we expect to have some interesting projects including building a cob pizza oven, establishing and planting a polytunnel/greenhouse for food growing, marking wildlife trails, creating maps and many more.
The building where we all sleep, eat and socialise has stunning views of the forest, valleys, mountains and distant volcanoes and a number of good spaces for relaxing, bird watching, reading, fitness, practicing yoga etc.

We are looking for volunteers who want to live amongst the trees and music of the forest, wake up to a beautiful view and enjoy the fresh climate of the mountains. We are looking for interesting and sustainability minded volunteers who are keen to learn and be involved with eco-building projects using wood, cob, stone etc.

If this sounds like the place for you, please get in touch and tell us about yourself and what skills and experience you can add to this exciting mix of projects.

The surrounding farm is Nicaraguan owned and currently producing top quality Arabica coffee and has a range of fruit trees including banana, mango, avocado, sweet lemon and oranges.

The building we share with volunteers currently has solar heated running water for showers and flushing toilets, solar power for lights and charging devices, a kitchen, living area, two large balconies and sleeping spaces in the form of shared dormitories or potentially double rooms for couples, comfortable beds for all. The balconies are great spots for watching birdlife as they are at canopy height of the trees where the birds are moving and talking. They also have beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and the city below. Internet is available at the lodge with 3G if you buy a cheap local Claro or Movistar SIM and an internet package. If you are staying for longer than a week there will be the opportunity to go to the closest city to use WIFI and check your emails etc.

As time allows we will be focusing more and more time on projects within the open land in front of the Eco-lodge. The vision is to create a permaculture designed garden, producing food for the kitchen, creating a relaxing and beautiful place to sit, walk, play outdoor games and learn. Building projects are also planned for this area, the first being a cob pizza oven and shelter with hammocks. Further ahead we are planning a dedicated yoga hut/learning space and cabanas for accommodation.

We are only accepting volunteers on a week trial with the chance of staying longer, the working day is no more than 5 hours, with Saturday and Sunday normally being days of rest but this is normally very flexible.

Please apply with full details of what you can bring to the project and how long you can commit for.

I am the Pete from England (speaks English and good Spanish). This is a very exciting project for me I continue to learn a lot from all types of volunteers.
