Hello, future helpxer!

Invitation to volunteer on a Swiss dairy farm.
We are a dynamic Swiss family of five and are located in a valley in the northern part of Switzerland surrounded by Jurassic fold mountains. We are rather new on helpx, however, we've recently had some positive experience with helpxer.
We live a bit outside of a nice village with good train and bus connections to the next bigger cities.

Our children are all studying, working and have loads of exams and papers to prepare. Therefore, we’re happy to invite enthusiastic people to help us with the daily labour on our farm! After reading all the information (and if you like the sound of what we offer) please get in touch!

My husband Martin is a passionate farmer who loves his animals and the work in nature. We have about 30 dairy cows with their offspring, some sheep, chickens, rabbits and cats. Moreover, we cultivate corn, wheat and grass that need to be harvested during the warmer months. Loads of apples and other fruits as well as berries have to be gathered every year.

There is always work that needs to be done: feeding the animals, giving milk to the calves, haymaking in summer, picking fruits (we have a lot of apple trees), gathering honey, beekeeping (if you’re interested), gardening, some cleaning, maintaining and way more farming work (you'll mainly be working outside)!

I’m a passionate cook and you definitely won’t suffer from hunger here! We have daily fresh, home-grown vegetables, eat our own meat and enjoy a desert after every lunch! That's why we'd like to feed chaps who aren't fussy about food. Please, if you apply, be aware that we’re unable to cater for vegetarians or vegans, sorry for that! Also, if you have any special diet requirements let us know beforehand.

For my part, I also cook for catering events (birthdays, anniversaries, meetings...) at our home up to twice a month. In addition, I give cookery classes, which is quite successful. By the way, have a look at my homepage (above), if you're interested in what we offer on the farm.

We are looking for motivated, talkative and easy-going people who are interested in farming and our daily life. This hosting will suit NON-SMOKERS with useful skills or a willingness to learn. We all are of a positive character, fun-loving and open-minded and we can't deal with negative energy around us.
What we’re seriously sorry about is that we can only host folk who speak at least a little German, as Martin never has had the chance to learn a foreign language and you will often be working with him.

Depending on the weather, you will work for about 25 hours a week (equal 5 hours a day with 2 days off) and we'll give you enough time to explore the surroundings and to see some nice places or cities in Switzerland!

In return for your labour we’ll provide you with a comfy accommodation and - as you’ve read before- with quality food. And there is a great likelihood of you acquiring some valuable skills and life experiences.

We know our country quite well and have loads of maps and travel guides! For the adventurers: you’ll find some nice hiking tracks surrounding us, some castles, a well-preserved Roman street and we can offer you bicycles to explore the landscape and the geologically stunning environment of the Jurassic fold mountains! We’re happy to show you around.

So, if you like the sound of it, write us an email (in German please) and tell us something about yourself, your plans and the period of time you're planning to stay with us. We are looking for volunteers who have a serious interest in working with us! But be patient, if we don't reply within a day. We need time to discuss, to check our timetable and so on.

We’re looking forward to hearing from you!

Therese and Martin Kohler
