About the place
Stay in one of the most beautiful places in Japan! Our Minshuku (Japanese Guest House) is located on Kumihama Bay and across the street from the Sea of Japan. We have been hosting Japanese guests for over 40 years and are looking to attract people from all over the world.
We have an oyster farm in Kumihama Bay - you won't find fresher seafood anywhere in the world! The Tango Hanto (Tango Peninsula) is part of the San-in Kaigan Geopark - a Nature Park which has scientifically important or beautiful geological assets. There are countless hiking and biking trails as well as world-class beaches - surfing is very popular here in the winter.
Transportation is a little difficult in this area and it would help if you have a car. If you don't, I can pick you up from the train station. You can borrow or rent bikes here and get around easy enough. It will be a true Japanese country experience - there is not much nightlife around but I will introduce you to some local people and show you the best places to hike and bike and swim.
About the living and working situation...
We will be happy to host helpers who are eager and motivated to contribute to the farm and guesthouse. Depending on your skills and time of year, the work might include:
-We warmly welcome the person who has working experience as a chef or kitchen assistant for supporting my parents in the kitchen.
- Oyster and Cockle Farm assistance of each season's tasks(Oyster Farm from the end of November until April. Cockle Farm assistance from July to November, from April to June).
- English conversation with our daughter(You can take care of my daughter for half an hour after dinner).I also want to make a class of English conversation for elementary school students and the locals who want to learn English in the near future. So it would be great for my family if you have the experience to teach English as a teacher.
- General Maintenance and Cleaning.
- Gardening(My parents need your help sometimes)
- Supporting my family for tasks of Airbnb and Guesthouse.
-Marketing research for the new project of tourism in Kumihama bay.
Don't hesitate to express your interest or motivation for any of these areas!
When you come to our place, we will talk about both the work that needs to get done during your stay, and your travel and visiting plans to figure out a schedule that meets all needs. Normally we expect 5 to 6 hours a day, in exchange for accommodation and breakfast(by ownself at the kitchen)/dinner(My Parents are both good cook so they cook the lunch for my volunteers but they are 76 and 74 years old so they need a rest at night. Please cook something for the dinner at the kitchen by ownself.). You won't go hungry here! The working hours are flexible: regarding the guesthouse, it depends on the arrival and departure of guests, whereas the aquafarming-related work varies according to weather conditions. We can talk about the precise daily schedule in the morning.
!!! From Autumn to Spring we only accept long stays (+3 weeks). In the summertime, short stays (+10 days) are accepted. !!!
Your stay at our farm and guesthouse will be a real homestay, which means that we will be sharing everyday life. Therefore it is important that you are willing to adapt to our daily rhythm: we have breakfast at 7h30, and many times, the work outside needs to be done in the morning hours before the sun gets too hot (especially in the summertime).
VERY IMPORTANT: Please notice that when we host helpers, we count on their contribution to the work in the guesthouse and on the farm – sometimes, work can be tough and physical, but it is also rewarding, and we will always make sure you are enjoying yourself during your work and free time. This is a true exchange, not a vacation. We are looking forward to hosting serious and motivated helpers! We treat all our HelpXers with respect and as if they were a guest in our home.
I have a Facebook page for my volunteers so please check it out if you want to see what's going on here:)
Let us know if you have any questions - come to enjoy traditional Japanese country-style life and work in paradise!
*I will wait for your reply for 10 days after I wrote to you. If it passes 10 days, I may find another helper.*
*Please be aware that my English is not perfect yet*
*My volunteer program on helpx is close to the WWoofing program so I don't accept the people who are looking for just free accommodation and foods like a homestay. And the schedules depend on the weather condition because of the working place is not on the land when we work for aqua farming tasks. I wish you can understand what I want to request you.
