English couple with 1 very spoilt Rough Collie.

Peaceful location in rural France.

Learn how to use all types of machinery safely and experience the DIY world. Have a different social life than in a big city.

We are looking for willing people, for gardening, building an above ground fish pond, tree felling, wood cutting, roofing, interior renovation, carpentry, plumbing, tiling, decorating and plastering, outside maintenance weather permitting including installing a new fish pond as my poor fish are currently living in a paddling pool after problems during the winter, plus help with issues as they occur. Preferably all helpers will be flexible and happy to take on any of the above, depending on need and weather.

We are non smoking and are seeking helpers that do not smoke at all. Helpers should be happy to live as part of the family during their stay, we would expect this to involve helping prepare meals and the inevitable clearing away after.

We accept both skilled or unskilled people.

We need people able to work on their own initiative. We will show you how to do the job and provide the necessary equipment and protective clothing and some boots and wellies in a limited range of sizes, although you may prefer your own footwear suitable for outside work.

If you are travelling with a laptop, smartphone etc, we have wireless internet available for emailing and normal surfing. We do not offer the use of our computer.

Couples will sleep in the house in a double bedded room. In exchange for 25 hours work per week.
Note: we cannot accept helpers with children or pets.
After work we normally come together for a glass of home brewed beer or a glass of wine. The evening meal normally consists of 2 courses with wine, beer or soft drinks.
We have a huge selection of movies on DVD if you enjoy them which we watch together. The house is not large but adequate. We have central heating installed so you are not cold during the winter plus wood burning stoves.

The countryside around here is mostly gentle slopes with a few hills. It is good for rides out on our bikes at the end of the day and weekends, or a gentle walk with our dog Kain. He will go for a few kilometres but is generally lazy.
Our nearest town is St Maixent L`Ecole, it is a historic garrison town worth an afternoon wandering around its old streets. It also houses a military museum within the national NCO college.
Note there is no public transport, so cycling is the only form of individual travel. We visit the town a least once per week when you are welcome to tag along. We are about 1 hour on the train to La Rochelle or by car from Poitiers airport.
