Come share the experience of living and working on dairy farms in the beautiful south island countryside. We are just a short drive to the stunningly beautiful Lake Rotoroa in Nelson Lakes National Park, and about 25 minutes from Murchison township. Murchison is known for its white water rafting and kayaking (grade 2-4), the natural flames experience, deer hunting and trout fishing. There are also lots of bushwalks around the region, and you may even find some Lord of the Rings scenery. Our family’s farms are surrounded by snow capped mountains and native bush. We are remote so water comes from an underground stream. In summer you can pick fresh fruit from the orchards, make preserves and swim in the rivers. In winter days are spent feeding the livestock and doing maintenance such as fencing. Come spring the cows are calving and there are lots of cute little wet noses to feed.

For 4-6 hours work a day we are offering accommodation and food. Depending on your skills and the time of year you may be asked to help with variety of tasks. These may include helping to run temporary fences, feeding calves, farm maintenance, shifting and yarding stock, and assisting with milking. We’d also appreciate help with gardening, lawn mowing, firewood collection, vehicle cleaning and housework. Additionally, there are several young children in our family’s, so there is also an opportunity for someone with experience with kids to come stay and help with babysitting and taking children to playcentre. In summer you may be asked to travel with us over to our beach house at Little Kaiteriteri to help with the children. Whilst there you would have the opportunity to explore Abel Tasman National Park (and it’s golden sand beaches) and go sea kayaking.

We have several different farm vehicles so a full drivers licence is advantageous but not always necessary. Please note we do have a number of farm dogs and cats, so it is essential that you like animals. Stays of 3 weeks to 3 months preferred, but shorter stays may be negotiated. We currently have helpers till early February but are taking enquiries for after this time.
