Central Pennsylvania – Newport
If you enjoy quiet nights, wildlife, beautiful stars and fresh air all centered around an amazing house then you will love this place! We are surrounded by woods with lots of wildlife and offer hiking, boating/canoeing/ kayaking, and fishing nearby. Our 23 acre (9.30 Hectors) property is near both the Susquehanna River, as well as the Juniata River. We have a large house that has been neglected that last 25 years and nears some love to make it beautiful again. The house is a “German” style Tutor that was a summer home set in the woods on a small farm. The house has lots of room inside and on the large deck, as well as the large stone porch.
The volunteers (Preferably a couple or 2 to 3 friends) would help with work that is linked to their particular strengths for renovation, maintenance and landscaping projects both inside and out. Projects revolve around improving the house and farm buildings like landscaping, painting, light construction, tile work and basic cleaning. People with renovation experience and skills are particularly welcome. If you are skilled at interior painting, that would be a plus, since my wife is pregnant and is not allowed to paint. An “artist” would have the basic skills needed to do a nice painting job that does not end with paint on the floor or ceiling. Some work could require breaking a sweat but you'll have lots of time to relax and enjoy what nature has to offer at this place. We are open to your new project ideas for ways to improve the property.

Some interior design projects will be available, like chalk painting furniture to give it a new look, as well as assisting with decorating the mostly empty house with furniture and decorations.

We also own a barn wedding venue (at another farm nearby), so work at that location is also an option if you have an interest in American weddings and traditions and event planning. We have a wedding almost every Saturday, so you will have a chance to see a wedding (if you choose).

Also if you have an interest in large scale corn and soybean farming, we can offer learning opportunities (non-working) in Spring and Fall. Due to the large machinery involved, these learning opportunities let see how large scale farming is done up close.

We look to host volunteers from now through the end of October, taking in both Long Term and Short term guests for different tasks. We expect volunteers to contribute about 3 hours of work per day, 5 days per week (we are asking for less hours of work per week, since food is not provided). The preferred age is 23 - 35 years, couples or friends. No smoking, no drugs or HEAVY alcohol. Volunteers must be height and weight proportionate and able to lift 50 pounds if needed.
Private Bedrooms inside the house are available (with bedding included) with full access to the bathroom (only shared with other volunteers). Most rooms have queen size beds.

Meals: Food is not provided and in exchange we are asking for LESS hours of work per week…plus we are not very good cooks anyway! The positive is you have full access to the kitchen to prepare meals. The grocery store is close by and we will provide transportation to and from the store.

We're able to provide transportation to/from several airports or train stations.

Bicycles are available to ride to town (3 miles) or places like: the grocery store, bank, pharmacy McDonald’s (all 1.5 miles away). Fishing rods and canoes are available to use also.
