Small part of a larger Social & Environmental campaign, with an “off the grid” house, and a garden, with virtually every skill imaginable required. The campaign is a large community campaign, which we assist in, and also try to live and promote low impact sustainable living.
The larger project is to stop the multinational oil and gas company Shell from destroying this beautiful area and strong community. Shell are attempting to build a high pressure gas pipeline and refinery in very close proximity to peoples'homes, and in a magnificently beautiful and unspoiled landscape which include many special areas of conservation, special protected areas, bogs and bays which host many species of whale and dolphin.
At the house we generate our own electricity, gather our own fuel, and have our own water supply. The house is an old stone house and quite run down in some ways so don’t be expecting the Ritz. Its in a highly scenic location over looking Sruwaddacon Bay.
Volunteers would be free to help in areas where they have skills or wish to gain skills, and these include but are not limited to, organic gardening, office based work such as PR work, fundraising, banner making, protests, research, house maintenance and domestic housekeeping, vehicle maintenance etc. etc. etc. etc.
We have guidelines for people who stay at the house and these can be viewed on the camp website. There are some amenities within walking distance (& more if cycling, we have bikes), including, post office, shop, pub. We take it in turns to cook a vegan evening meal each evening. If possible a suggested donation of 25 euro is a great help but no one is turned away for lack of funds.
Background information is available via our web links above.
