(about human rights crimes: due to many people being afraid to travel the Philippines... in my and all volunteers experience and opinion, it is very safe and I`ve never experienced anything worrying personally - if you pay attention to the regular rules of travel. The Philippines can be wild, disorderly but not more than many other counties. And with sad things happening here and in the west, I feel very safe here and can see many many Filipinos being very caring and attentive of your personal safety.
Similarly me and volunteers are very safe in legazpi regarding the volcano exploding. In fact it`s rather awesome to watch apart from the sad evacuation side. You can
Ok and now...
Come and join us in Legazpi City and help us create a green eco-oasis in the middle of the city. We build with natural materials, bamboo, wood and rock and our current project involves building a second toilet as well as beautifying the hostel and houses that are already there (translation: "kubo" - native house in Filipino) for the GRAND OPENING haha
Our goal is to show the Philippines and rest of the world how easily an environmentally and socially driven project can be created and how the local community can benefit from nature and the materials provided.
SHOUT OUT: we are not only looking for short term volunteers, but also a trustworthy individual /couple /or group who wanna live here on a self sustained sabbatical of 6 months or more starting anytime between now to stay in Legazpi and run the show or simply stay here and enjoy whatever comes up and be in peace or test for themself /themselves to start such enterprise in a ready made place...
Why? for me /us to travel around the Philippines a bit more and be rather flexible than stationary... Everything is done to have a good life and regular volunteers and Couchsurfers coming in are a sure thing (if hosting others is what you would like). Get in touch if you are interested or know someone to discuss details :)
We are a fun loving group of individuals. We work hard and we love to play. Take time off to visit the waterfalls, hike up the volcano, hot springs as beaches in the area (and yes whale shark swimming, are not fed in Donsol other can Cebu!) and enjoy interacting with locals to see the real Philippines.
We are already operational and charge our paying guests 600 a night, excluding meals. If you come on a volunteer basis, we request a sliding scale contribution of 250-300 pesos per day for food and board, that`s 4-5 Euro per day and you will be contributing to an awesome project. :)
Whatever you want to give on this sliding scale is self evaluated by you.
I, Mario (29) own and run the project. I`m a German-Filipino that has decided to come here after being born and raised in Germany as well as having the privilege of going to different universities in Germany and Ireland. I wanted to see the potential here and give back and it has turned into this. During and after University I travelled many places around Europe and the world. Two years of living in different ecovillages (I saw about 25 different projects around Europe) had the greatest impact on me.
So much love and great great experiences!!
... I`ll share more with you if you ask and enjoy listening ;)
My knowledge of environmental issues can be seen throughout the project, with the use of compost toilets and recycled materials.
I want to co-create a safe space and environment in which people feel good, can be themselves and start dreaming and co-creating in a caring community.
I`m very passionate about getting to know people on a deeper level as I teach non-violent-communication (with a lawyer/mediator background) and community building. I love empowering people through listening and giving feedback... (if requested.)
Apart from that I love music and dancing, teach Latin American competitive ballroom here and have competed in Germany before.
I`ve started giving massages as a side business which I`ve worked on in eco villages too.
I`m dating a fantastic Filipina who fights for human rights, enjoys the same depth of communication while sharing a love for teaching, nature and adventure.
For updates and more photos message me on Facebook. Everything is happening so fast by now we are struggling to keep pages updated,
The Hostel is also connected to my dads EcoFarm (1 hour south of Legazpi City) that is transitioning into a Permaculture Farm where he has planted 23000 trees for reforestation.
I/We welcome everyone who wants to contribute with their talents to the project. Basically everyone. People that have practical, creative or artistic skills in all kinds of areas. Construction and building, IT, social media and videos, gardening, permaculture, COOKING, music, other passions that bring you joy, event work, work with kids etc etc... and that want to be part of a fun community whilst creates something truly beautiful, peaceful and enjoyable.
We are connecting to other social businesses in the area doing good things, so if you like working with kids, I`ll introduce you to my cousins, who will be happy about your input to support small families! Come and meet real Filipinos and experience their generosity and joyful approach to everything in life.
We would love you to honour us with your stay.
-start with why-
I was born and grew up in the West and was moved by the inequality I saw around me, so I left my simple tidy life as lawyer and entrepreneur in Germany and came here to reconnect to my family, to support and try to empower those with less of a voice. World peace is my dream, so lets think global, act local.
We love hearing from you, so feel free to get in touch with us or connect on Facebook or WhatsApp.
See you soon! We are excited :)
Enjoy the Philippines and thank you in advance.
Mario and team
PS: One of the next projects is a bamboo tree house/platform to enjoy tea or coffee with an epic view of the volcano above all houses. Come and help us build using natural materials and help us decide where to put the zip line.
PPS:the current political situation is difficult but I can assure you that I and every one of our visitors and volunteers feels absolutely safe and the Philippines is beautifully safe in general if you use the normal senses like you would in the West.
PPS: Also I want to empower the older kids to copy this litre-of-light idea that started in Manilas slums, but am currently very very busy around the hostel construction and its management. So fresh air is always appreciated.
PPS: If you are already in the Philippines, simply call or text me to inquire when our plans can match and expect a "yes, you are very welcome."
