We are a budding community located in the beautiful Laurentians in Quebec, on 62 acres of land, including 2 houses, a full woodworking workshop, lots of arable land, a Source, a river, forests, plus many ongoing activities, like music recording, events, gardens, plant harvesting and workshops, and much more.
Located on a South-oriented valley, it is both a wildlife haven as well as a prime agricultural location. There's a nice magic going on, it's easy to expect elves and fairies to come out of the woods...
In the outback of the shire, the territory beyond the river, are older-growth forests, hills and a lot of peace.
WHERE WE ARE
We are located 1 hour North of Montreal, in the city of Wentworth. The closest grocery store is 15 minutes away by car, in Lachute.
Here's how it normally works: we love collective meals, so everyone is invited to contribute some ingredient and assist Allan to cook us a daily 5-star supper (around 6-7pm). Usually this happens daily, but there can be exceptions. Let me tell you that you're not likely to forget how tasty his recipes are!
Everyone should bring enough food for prior-to-supper eating, plus contributions for supper. Please inquire as to what food to bring to suit the chef's needs, you'll be happy you did!!
We expect 3 hours of service from our helpers daily, plus optional help if/when needed for supper preparation, cleanup, and some housekeeping.
WHO WE ARE
We are 2 permanent residents on the Shire presently:
A man called Allan is the founder of the Shire, he is the one who welcomes us in his piece of paradise with an open Heart. Man of many talent, he is a seasoned musician, a cook, and a master cabinet maker, to name but a few. Allan is 52 and as kind-hearted as one can get, he contributes greatly to the openness of the atmosphere that reigns in the Shire. Wait til you taste the food he cooks for us, like the wood oven-baked pizza, as well as numerous recipes he's gathered through his extensive travels! Part of the help we need here would be dedicated in assisting Allan at different levels of his activities
ETIENNE BOVO, a long-time friend of Allan's, is communications manager, in-house herbologist, recording musician and more. Music, plants and marketing figure among his areas of expertise, and he is happy to put them to use for the Shire and those who dwell in it! At 41 he's putting in motion his idea of a creative permaculture, an ecology where every mind can work where they thrive most, thus bringing the greatest benefits to the community. Part of the help provided by you would be to assist Etienne in different areas, including administrative, organizational, artistic, as well as general management.
Many other helpers are involved and we are currently developing instrumental partnerships.
We are easy going, energetic, and we love sharing around arts, nature and community! We are looking forward co-creating with you and welcoming you in the Shire!
WHO WE NEED
We are looking for kind, clean, stable, hard-working, energetic helpers who would like to benefit from this amazing piece of land and help out. We are art lovers, so artists are welcome, and can benefit most from the environment we are creating. We are opening big garden areas this fall, se we'll need garden-people. We're completely organic, there's never ever been any chemical poisons used for agricultural activities here, and we plan to keep it that way!
Welcome: entrepreneurs, artists, craftspeople, community developers, administrators/managers, carpenters, multimedia people, plumbers, teachers, nature lovers, or any creative individuals of any and all horizons, who aspire to contribute to make a better world. We're here to try and support you!
We discourage the use of alcohol and drugs, although we can appreciate a beer once a while. No smoking in the houses, and no pets allowed, unless otherwise agreed, contact us for details.
WHAT WE NEED (from you)
This is a non-exhaustive list:
-Cleaning, small renovations, general help on the house (isolation, upgrades and upkeep).
-Multimedia people: video, photo, sound
-Event organization and management
If you have specialized skills, interests or passions, please let us know about them, even if you don't do them 'professionally'.
So.. that sums it up... please contact us for any inquiries, see you in the Shire!
