Hello... a bit about us and what we do on our own special little speck of earth here in Oropi...

We are set on a 13.5 acre life-style block about 20mins to Tauranga, 30mins to Mount Maunganui beach and also Rotorua.

I have had some fabulous helpers and have space again now for motivated people who are flexible, capable and keen to learn!

There's always a variety of projects on the go and other gardening and odd-jobs to do at this time of year.

If you are able to do simple tasks (or wanting to try something a bit more creative) are enthusiastic, sociable and have initiative, we welcome you!

I try to find interesting jobs that fit different people and their preferences and experience, so some initiative is an advantage.

Our next big project for spring is to re-establish the vege garden with heirloom varieties to feed the property and the community (and preserve the heritage seeds for future generations).

We are gradually implementing and improving Permaculture principles for more self-sufficiency which takes time and motivation if you already know the basics..

'Work Smarter, Not Harder' makes the most of time, energy and resources and being mindful of our impact on the environment (we save, compost, recycle, re-use and re-purpose everything we can).

I have a cute dog and occasionally a couple of friendly goats from over the fence plus the 'neigh'bours horse/s doing some grass control and we have 25+ chickens and bantams and chicks as well!

There are usually 4-5 of us in the house as well as other tenants on the property (the neighbours visit a bit too!).

We have a bunk room available that sleeps 4 (shared bathroom) with wifi for basic internet use (our data is limited as we are rural).

It is a lovely community here with a new local hall and a monthly gathering that many of my helpers have enjoyed during their stay.

I am looking for helpers for general yard and horticultural work and maybe some building, house-work or other odd jobs.

The days and weeks are varied so there is always something happening around here, inside and out and flexibility is the key!

My kitchen is vege/semi-vegetarian, but if people want to cook meat or other food for themselves then separate facilities are available.

Work hours/days are flexible (4hrs a day per night-stay covers food, bed and limited wifi) and smoking outside on the covered deck please.

I can pick people up from Tauranga city centre or Bethlehem if using public transport.

Our little community looks forward to meeting you :)

(please note: this is a large and complex property with a huge house to maintain, many occupants and projects on the go at any time that I run on my own as well as working away some days... please only apply if you feel comfortable to do the tasks that may be 'on the list' for the short period you are here..)
