"As a volunteer at Chisholme House you are appreciated for who you are, not only for what you do."

This is a place of great beauty set in the heart of the Scottish Borders. It is primarily a school and retreat centre. The 187 acre estate offers an ideal space in which to retreat, engage in study and experience the reviving effect of being close to nature.

We accept help throughout the year but at the moment we are particularly looking for help over the summer. Come and join volunteers from all over the world for a week or two of satisfying work in Chisholme's walled garden and estate - and help too in preparing the wonderful meals for which we are famous. You can come for one of our special volunteer weeks when a programme of activities complements work outside - or at any other time. Please see the website for more details

Volunteers are a vital part of life here. You may be involved in diverse activities such as working in the organic garden, building paths through our woods, splitting timber, putting up yurts, baking bread, making yoghurt, or caring for chickens. As a volunteer, you are welcome to participate in all aspects of the Institute including study and meditation if you wish.

Normally volunteers come for one or two weeks (not shorter than 1 week). Longer stays may be possible after the initial two weeks. Volunteers applying through HelpX do not have to pay the volunteer fee outside the special Volunteer weeks
of 24th March - 7th April, 19th - 26th May, 9th - 16th June, 14th - 21st July and 4th - 11th August.
Vegetarian meals can be provided. Regrettably we cannot cater to anyone with special dietary requirements (e.g., vegan, gluten-free, sugar-free, dairy-free, etc.). We cannot accept pets.

This has been a school for over forty years, in which time Chisholme has become a unique setting for a complete education in what it means to be human.
