We are a young couple living in France aiming towards 100% food sufficiency in the next couple of years. We currently have a large vegetable patch and poly tunnel to grow our own fruit, vegetables and herbs. We have 50 acres of land so also do a lot of foraging for wild foods, not just for ourselves but for the animals too. We have about 1 acre of cider apple orchard which we will be making cider/cider vinegar from. We currently have 11 rare breed pigs, 7 rare breed sheep, chickens, ducks, geese, rabbits and 2 dogs. We are trying to stick to rare breed animals and keep them in large areas as close to their natural environment as we can.
We need help with building fences and housing for the animals, cutting wood and woodland management, general help around the vegetable patch, and we are also currently doing some building work to create a gite (holiday accommodation) so also some basic construction works. In return we can provide you with accomodation, 3 meals a day and 1 full day off a week in return for 6-8 hours fairly hard work a day. We can show you basic animal husbandry and share with you the knowledge we have learned so far if you are interested in self sufficiency or maybe you have your own knowledge that you would like to share with us which would always be welcome and appreciated. You will have free range of the 50 acres to explore our surroundings and see the beautiful wildlife and stunning scenery. We are 20 minutes from a large town, our village has a fantastic bakery which is a 5 minute walk away, and there are endless activities, walks and sights to see in our local area.
