PLEASE NOTE THAT DUE TO THE CORONAVIRUS CRISIS, WE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTING FOREIGN VOLUNTEERS UNTIL 2021.
We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to teach English, and computer skills, to the disadvantaged young people in this poor area of Cambodia. You should have a mature attitude and an adaptable nature, as class sizes will vary according to the number of students/volunteers at any time.
Our non-profit private school is based in Kratie province and is about 10 minutes by bicycle from The Mekong River and the town.
In the public schools of Kratie, students donít learn much English, or computer skills and there are only a few places which provide English lessons in the area.
In Cambodia the economy is mainly based on tourism and agriculture, so our goal is to help the students learn a new language that can make it easier for them to find a better job and have a better life in their future.
You do not need to have teaching experience, but you must be able to plan and teach your own class within our curriculum. There is a qualified teacher on site to help you with this.
Our volunteers will help for a minimum of 3 hours per day from Monday to Friday. Minimum commitment time required is 3 weeks.
IMPORTANT things you should know : Our School doesnít receive financial assistance or support from the Government or donors for implementing our projects.
We will provide accommodation in our newly purpose built volunteer house, which is a Khmer style wooden house. Our school is located underneath the house.
There are shared bedrooms for volunteers, a bathroom, kitchen, and large, comfortable communal area. Bikes are available for accessing some of the schools and for use in free time. Volunteers must be fit,and able to ride a bicycle over dirt roads.
COST: We ask for US$10 per week to cover our bills. Drinking water, and basic cooking supplies are provided. With this option, you buy and cook your own food.
Alternatively,Khmer food is available if you wish - US$5 per day will provide 3 meals per day, as well as the above items.
MINIMUM COMMITMENT IS 3 WEEKS.
What you can bring?
School materials like pencils, pens and notebooks ...etc., are much appreciated since the students are poor. But it is not a requirement to come here. Also,we need basic English books, flashcards etc to aid in our teaching.
We are looking for volunteers who can help with:
Teaching English at a home-based school and in schools near Kratie Province. Teaching experience is valued, but if you have no experience you are still very welcome. You must have enthusiasm and a willingness to make a commitment to our organisation. The students follow a set curriculum, but volunteers plan their own classes and are encouraged to bring their own personality to class.
Teaching basic computer skills
Teaching IT(computer) skills to children and youth in Kratie province.Having basic computer skills will help our young people in their future.
Gardening: working in our vegetable garden, and keeping the school grounds in good condition.
Fundraising and communication:
Volunteers can also bring new ideas from everywhere in the world to help our staff design new projects or activities to raise money and recruit more donors who can support our school or poor communities in Kratie province.
Our volunteers must be able to stay a minimum of 2 WEEKS, and up to few months if so desired.
Kratie is easily accessible by van from Phnom Penh and Siem Reap.
We look forward to hearing from you.
