Hi there,

I am offering the use of our entire off-grid, solar powered Yurt. Perfectly positioned on the hill tops over looking stunning Gore Bay, with views north towards Kaikoura and south towards Banks Peninsula. Not to mention the amazing mountain views at the top of the property. Our property is 15 acres, partly covered in pine forest and native bush, which attracts a lot of native birds and are great for exploring. Our back paddock has been turned into a purpose built mountain bike jump track. A second fun mountain bike track is located through the forest. The Yurt is completely self contained with it's own full kitchen incl dishwasher, bathroom, lounge with TV, office area, logburner (all wood supplied) and sleeping area.

Check out the photos and this video of the view from the top of our property

In exchange for accommodation I would like help with general property duties. Mostly this will be maintaining existing gardens and establishing new gardens.

Would suit person/persons, a mature couple would be perfect, looking to stop in one place for a while. Someone hardworking and handy with tools would be great, as would experience in gardening and landsscpaing.

Since we do not live on site you would have the property to yourself and need to provide your own meals. How great is that............. your very own private accommodation in one of the most stunning coastal areas of New Zealand, no one watching your every move and all you have to do is some gardening! People pay a lot of money a night to stay in this spectacular location, just check out airbnb for examples.

This does mean that it is essential you are honest and reliable. Also you will need to be strong and capable as the work is fairly physical. Being handy, able to solve problems and follow instructions is also essential as your on your own and don't have someone to ask questions every minute, although I am only a phone call away. Please don't apply if you don't possess these qualities.

For the right person/persons we offer the option to stay as long as you like, the longer the better actually. The ideal person/persons would stay for several weeks at a time but a minimum of 2 weeks is what I ask.

The Yurt has some quirks, so it is important you are not scared of things like emptying a composting toilet, keeping doors closed when windy, using limited electricity, especially at night and abide by our rules of not using certain electrical appliances such as a hairdryer or food processor/blender (they are too much of a load on our solar system).

Specific tasks will include:-

- Maintaining existing gardens; weeding, mulching and fertilising
- Landscaping and planting new gardens; digging holes, planting, mulching, laying weed matt, constructing gabbions (rock baskets), retaining walls.
- Checking and watering the two cheeky goats that live on site

3 - 4 hours work per day (work hours can be condensed into a couple of full days to allow for whole days off to explore) - minimum stay 2 weeks - own transport is essential

There is plenty to do in the area including; 3 epic surfing spots at Gore Bay, Port Robinson and for those that are really keen the Hurunui river mouth, fishing, beach, local walks, wildlife and the local seal colony.

The town of Cheviot is a short drive and has all the necessities you would need; supermarket, petrol station, hardware store, library, pharmacy, butcher, hairdresser and a few luxuries such as the local cafes, pub and wine bar.

Further afield Gore Bay is perfectly positioned for trips to Kaikoura an hour to the north, Christchurch 1 1/2 hours to the south and beautiful Hanmer Springs 1 1/2 hours west.

If you think that you have the skills necessary to help me with the above tasks please send me an email.

Don't hesitate to contact me if you've got any questions.
