FROM JULY 2017 TILL SEPTEMBER 2017 WE ARE LOOKING FOR 10+ VOLUNTEERS TO CONTINUE THE BUILDING OF OUR EARTHBAG HOUSE! PLEASE READ BELOW AND CONTACT US FOR MORE INFO!
We had a three months Building workshop from Mid January till Mid April to learn about the earthbag building.
In the month of may 2017 we are fixing up our volunteer camp (fixing self made tipis, clean up land, fix up fire place, fix up storage room, recycle plastic bottles etc.) , will replant the garden and make our little bar the Magic Yellow Bus even more pretty.
I am a mother of two wonderful children who are 13 and 9 years old. I used to sing, dance and produce Shows while living in Montreal, Canada. Coming from a family of artists, I don't need to tell you that music is very important in our lives.
My other passion is to work with people and especially kids. I worked as a social worker with teenage girls and helped them to find jobs, to do their homework , building up self esteem & self confidence, solving daily problems & working through chores, give positive energy and help them find whatís important for their life.
More than four years ago we decided to leave Montreal and move closer to nature, to seek what's important in life... understanding REAL life, family and the importance of community...back to the roots.
In Jamaica we live peacefully in a place called in in the district of Anchovy. Here we are close to the community and that is exactly what attracted us about life in Jamaica and especially in the mountains.
We just started a big project and life simple in a small Bamboo house. We also have a small business including a bar, grocery store, we create events and so on.
We love life and the people it allows us to meet. Our place is a home of honesty, love, respect and listening.
Hope to make you enjoy our environment.
I created a project over three years ago. The idea of connecting the simple Jamaican country lifestyle with community work, the beautiful nature and tourism, grew over the last few months. And in order to bring the real Jamaica to tourists, support local farmers and the community and give volunteers the time of their life in Jamaica, we recruited community members, former volunteers, guests and friends from all over the world to join us in the project. A small team has formed and together with YOU we want to make it happen.
In the green hills of St. James we want to build a small eco resort with recycled materials and sustainable building methods. Several cabins will be constructed using the Earthbag Building method. An easy and environmental friendly way to build.
The building workshop will start at the end of January and go on for about two months. Also after the workshop we will need help as we want to continue building.
We need volunteers in the field of construction and also for the ecological aspect of the building. To make our land wonderful, we want to plant beautiful fruit trees around the huts. We wish also to provide food from our land for better health and more cost effective. So we need people with big green thumbs.
Everyone is welcome though, we need all kind of skilled and willing workers. We don't just want to take qualified workers because we think we all learn from each other and every person will bring something new and good into the project.
But we donít just want to leave it at that. We have many ideas which just need to be made real. Tree houses,
Outdoor kitchen, chill out area...furniture , decoration Ė all made by hand with as many natural resources we can find.
We want to be creative together!
When we will be receiving a large amount of people, we will need help to assist tourists during their stay and also we will need sometime a translator or just someone to entertain them.
Because this is a big project we ask for a small contribution of 50 US$ for food per week.
Here we are surrounded by: goats, cows, rabbits, laying hens and other animals. We wish to have more and create a pleasant environment for them.
Starting on the day of arrival you will be on probation for 5 days if there is something that does not please us as your attitude, your behavior, work not done, etc. We will ask you to leave our project but we'll help you find something else in the same city or elsewhere.
Finally, we offer an internet cafe for the residents of the area in our business but sometimes the computers gives problems, if you know about computers, you are welcome.
With all the neighbouring communities, the volunteers and love and respect for one another we want to build something great so we can show the world what a beautiful country Jamaica is.
At the moment we have several self made Tipis as accomondation - it is like a big campside. Please bring an air- / camping mattress and a sleeping bag or warm sheets / blankets (as it can get chilly at night during the winter months) . We offer 3 meals a day.
We also give two days a week off so this allows you to visit the country.
Contact us for any questions. Check out our Facebook page Jardin D'Eden Jamaica.
Our business is located in our district - a paradise. Located in the mountains in the parish of St James in Jamaica. Here you will be able to do several activities like swimming in the Great river in Lethe at 10 minute walk away or you can also enjoy the bamboo rafting. Here you can enjoy the glorious site of farm while bathing in the same Great river. Lethe district also has a zip line that will make you see the scenic view. In addition, the scenery is outstanding and the people are very friendly. Not too far away, there is a site where birds are fly free and you can feed them. Closer still, we have the natural Farm where you could see several animals.
15 minutes by car or 25 by bike, you have the joy of the sea and the entertainment district of Montego Bay.
Here is a little help for a packing list:
Tent (if you have)
Air mattress / camping mattress
coffee if you are a coffee drinker (as it is very expensive here and we cant afford to provide that)
tabacco if you roll your own cigarettes (its nowhere to be found in jamaica)
Things we need if you have it lying around:
