We run a non-profit cooperative/association, which is part of a larger Volunteering Association, that has been operating for the last 30 years in Scandicci, on the outskirts of Florence, Italy.
At present 13 people work in it, either employed or on a volunteer basis and periodically work-camps take place here for young people from all over Italy.
The core activity of the Centre is that of collecting and receiving goods of all kinds that people want to get rid of and give to the Centre, which are then put back in circulation through sale as used material. Goods range from old furniture and appliances to linens and clothing, toys, books and miscellaneous objects.
We are seeking for young adults interested in working with us and learn about what it actually means to be involved in a recycling and re-use centre.
There is so much to do! For instance:
Hospitality (accomodation) area: cleaning, ordinary and extra-ordinary maintenance activities are needed to create a more welcoming and warmer atmosphere.
Outside maintenance: pruning, weeding and planting of greens, in order to create a tidier and more welcoming access to the Centre.
Selling areas: cleaning and maintenance of shelves, showcases, and general sales area.
Pro-sales activities: support in selecting and merchandising the goods and in collection of property from people’s homes.
Accommodation within the Centre, with private bedroom and shared kitchen and living-room.
Experience in activities with Social and Ecological scopes within our Cooperative; we offer basic training and supervision by experienced staff.
Bus Stop close-by; (20 minute ride) to reach the main train station and the historic town centre of Florence, pearl of Renaissance art and architecture, and UNESCO heritage site.
Daily breakfast and use of shared kitchen to cook remaining meals.
We speak English and French
A minimum 10 days stay.
24 hours of work per week (typically 4 hours/day for 6 days a week, but other arrangements can be agreed upon, so as to allow longer periods of free time).
Update february: due to the cold, we cannot accept helpx in wintertime but... spring will arrive quite soon! So, if you're still thinking about it, it is a good time to book your stay with us. Starting from April, our place is open to whom will like to spend 10 or more days working at the Centre!
We still thanks all the very nice people that we had last year: they all were wonderful people, and became friends of us!
