After 2.5 years travelling around the world working on farms, with horses and in tourism it was time for my boyfriend to return to Kiwiland and his family farm dragging me, the just graduated British girl back with him after a wirlwind 8 months of travelling together. Now we are managing the sheep and beef farm and additionally breaking and training performance horses in our spare time.

There is always something different going on around the farm and the days plan at breakfast could of completely changed by the time you get over the bridge to the rest of the farm but thats why we love it, never a dull day. As you can imagine having just got back we're full of ideas and need some help making time to carry them out and any input on how to improve them, whether this is making furniture out of pallets, finishing off the stables that are in the process of being completed or making time to develop the veggie garden that has not quite got the attention it needs.

The farm jobs depend completely on the weather and time of year, it could be sorting lambs by weight or chasing the cows in for checking. For the more adventurous of you theres the possibility of dangling off a bluff (steep face) by a spray gun in the battle against gorse and thistles! But we can find work for anyone thats keen and hard working although we like to make time to take it easy as much as anyone when its possible, and often enjoy swimming in the river or a trip to town (only 20 mins away).

The horses are a passion of ours, they are how we met and are what makes the farm feel like home for me. The hills are great for riding round and we would like to feel the horses are great too, so if you have experience riding there may be the right horse for you to join me, if not hopefully then we will have something suitable for you to learn the basics if you wish.

We would love to eventually set the farm up as a tourist spot so we can share how incredible the place is, so for us Helpx is just the start but having both traveled using this site, showing us what makes a good and bad stay, we think we can provide a great hosting in our cosy little home and a lot of fun out on the farm, to allow you to experience the true farming of New Zealand.
