Hello there, we are An and Dries and the kids: Joke, Arke, Nelke and Bieke.
Our project consists of building a "Natural House".
Currently we are building our temporary house (42m) and next year we plan to build our final house. Both are (going to be) roundwood timber frame with strawbale infill.
The temporary house is almost finished we are busy applying the earth plaster on the inside walls. Base coat is almost on and we plan to start the finish coat soon. So if you are a creative soul feel free to come and ad some colour and shapes to our walls :-).
Probably while the walls are drying we will start on the base coat of the earthen floors.

The work that we do is mainly a building job an so we are mainly looking for helpers that are interested in natural building and want to gain practical experience. You don't need special skills if you want to come, if you're motivated, eager to learn and have an eye for detail that's the most important.

The work will consist of making preparations, peeling trees, sieving earth, making mixes, plastering the walls, and sometime some gardening work, just to keep the weeds a bit under control :).
The longer you stay and the more experience you get (or already have) the more specialized the jobs can be.

We offer organic, mainly vegetarian food, a tent and sleeping mattress or a place to pitch your tent. Sleeping inside is not possible for the moment. We ourself still live in a van :-). There is a swimming pool nearby (with big slide :-) ) where you can go to swim and have a nice hot shower. We do have a very small natural swimming pool(1m) just enough for a fast dip but generally it is only used in summer for temperature reasons :-)

We work +- 6h/day on weekdays, in the weekends we don't work. You can explore the nice surrounding of the green part of Flanders, Limburg. We are close to the city centres of Genk and Hasselt and we have a good connection using public transportation or hitch hiking to the surrounding city's like Luik, Leuven, Brussels, Antwerp, all +- 1h ...
If you want to get to know the city of Genk there is plenty to discover there are some really nice forests, parks, museums and natural heritage sites where you can go for a visit/walk. On biking distance there is a lake where you can swim.
The city of Genk itself regularly organises different types of mainly free events.

Internet is available in the local library on walking distance.

We speak Dutch, English, French, Spanish and a bit of German.
