We have a hilly working farm of 150 ha with sheep, cattle and hens, and a little lifestyle block with horses, ponies and cats, in the foothills of the Tararuas.
We will happily host people who are prepared to put in some solid effort for four hours a day in exchange for gratitude, interesting experiences, a lovely physical environment, comfortable accommodation, autonomy, flexibility and good food.
There's a wide variety of work to be done, mostly manual, including pasture management, fencing, animal care, landscaping, tree work, gardening, building, homesteading.
Accommodation will either be in a warm, quiet room with ensuite at our house or, just as likely, at the fabulous Ratanui woolshed, see our website link above.
Can cater for vegetarians; pets and children are a possibility! But no smokers, please. Can provide some help with transport, local shops are 5+ mins away by car.
Loads of local attractions: Five minutes drive to Te Horo cafe and to the north end of 6km Mangaone Walkway; 10 minutes to the beach and to the stunning Otaki river; 12 minutes to Otaki township with its outlet stores and eateries; 15 minutes to the beautiful Otaki Gorge; 75 minutes from Wellington. Line up a riding lesson or a hire a horse trek on the beach; visit local artists, Southwards Car Museum, Nga Manu Nature Reserve, Loco Miniature Railway & Garden, Trinity Rose Farm; swim in the Otaki river at the Pots Reserve etc etc.
We look forward to hosting you!
