We are a rescue shelter and farm sanctuary in Hoi An, Vietnam. We focus our efforts on both the animals we care for and education programs for school children. The mission of our work is to end the exploitation of all species of animals through vegan animal rights education. We like to call ourselves Outspokenly Vegan.
We are a non-profit organisation and run completely on the donations and goodwill of both the international community and Vietnamese. With around 45 animals on-site and under our care at any given time, we're struggling to keep up with our digital and social media efforts at the same time. In this day and age, it is critical for our organization to be on social media sharing our wins, educating about the importance of animal rights and helping to grow our reach.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
We're looking for a marketing intern/digital nomad to come through and help us execute on our vision for social media growth and share the important stories of these animals. If you have skills/experience in:
-photography/videography and editing capabilities with your own software
ALSO if you are a veg/vegan with work experience with animals or just have a passion for the work we're doing...get in touch!
For animal work, we require a one month minimum stay and work/volunteer experience with animals, not just pet ownership. You'll need to be comfortable around all species and be physically fit enough to handle the cleaning routine at the shelter.
The work you'll be doing will be with the animals (photographs, etc.) and online (posting/sharing the experience) so you should not only be comfortable with dogs, cats, chickens, ducks, and pigs, but have a strong connection to them, ideally. The work is 5 hours per day, 5 and half days per week.
In exchange for your work, you will have a private room in a shared house in residential neighborhood in Hoi An. You'll have use of the common spaces (kitchen, living room, dining room and bathroom). There is not a private bath; this is also shared. The house is spacious and has lots of light, several outside spaces and is a comfortable environment. You will be sharing the house with 30 something's living in or passing through Hoi An. You will need to provide your own food and all food eaten within the property must be vegan.
While we are open to enjoying some drinks at the shelter and out in town once in a while, we ask volunteers to limit their wild nights out to those in which they stay in town in a room as the dogs need to be inside and quiet at the shelter by 9pm. The morning work begins around 5-5:30am, so staying out late is not possible while living at the shelter. We work very hard to keep good relations with the neighbors so keeping the noise down is crucial to the safety of our rescues at the shelter.
ABOUT HOI AN
Hoi An is an amazing city and there's tons to do with your time off! Hoi An is often called the food mecca of Vietnam, so besides eating all the delicious food, you can also go to temples, go scuba diving, swim in the ocean, chill by the beach or explore Old Town. Hoi An has a lot to offer! If you'd like more information on Hoi An, just let us know - it's a pretty amazing place.
WHAT YOU’LL LEARN
You will have the opportunity to learn from working with our team and there are opportunities for you to get involved beyond just the social media aspects based on your interests and experiences.. You'll not only learn about marketing; you'll learn about Vietnam. To the extent you feel comfortable, you'll be able to participate in our community education programs for school children at our farm sanctuary. At a minimum, you'll be in attendance at the events to capture some great photos along with watching the day to day activities from behind a camera and working on our brand and vital fundraising work.
If you're not going to be working in the tech side of things but just animals, this is an excellent opportunity to work with rescues, learn about the animal rights movement in Vietnam, and to experience life on our small farm here. We are planning a move to Hanoi this year, so our little Hoi An life is limited and you should come enjoy it!
