Our farm consists of 88 acres all permanent pasture (except small wood and kitchen garden). Livestock - about 200 sheep (including about 60 milking sheep), about 20 Devon cattle, some poultry and two sows. We milk our sheep in a milking parlour with a vacuum line and have a dairy where we make our own cheese. All management of livestock & cheesemaking practices conform to the Soil Association standards. We are members of the Specialist Cheesemakers' Association and have had success in the Organic Food Awards and the 'British Cheese Awards.' Our general aim is to farm in a humane and sustainable way, restore and maintain the traditional landscape features, produce excellent cheese and be as self sufficient as possible. We can demonstrate organic pasture management, animal husbandry, sheep milking, hedge laying. We are near the sea and good coastal walks (see link above for photos).
Karen and Lawrence have farmed here since 1992. Lawrence does most of the farm work and Karen does the cheese making and marketing. We are in our sixties and before 1992, were architects. Our son Bennet also lives on the farm. He is in his late twenties, helps on the farm sometimes, has a history degree from the Open University and works part time as a library assistant.
We are non-smokers and do not allow smoking in the house.
We have wireless internet.
