Hi, my name is Claire.
I`m a part-time painter, decorator and landscaper who enjoys meeting people and helping make your stay a delightful treasured experience.

Welcome to my secluded eco-wilderness home, gateway to the Tarkine. I built the place from scratch, starting off in a tent 20 years ago in a desire to be as self-sufficient as possible. The solar powered chalet, crafted mainly from timber off the property, is furnished with comfy old world charm and modern amenities. Nestled in landscaped gardens on the banks of the pristine Hook Creek in the Shakespeare Hills and just a 15min drive to beaches and Rocky Cape National Park, this private 50 acre rainforest property is the perfect getaway for those seeking to experience and learn about establishing and living off the grid with solar power and slow combustion stove whilst having a unique wilderness adventure.

Im wanting to host either a single or couple to help around house and garden and hear and learn about other`s experiences.

Accommodation: In house or in small cabin.

Length of stay: anything from one week to a few months.
Hours of work: ie 6 hours per day for 5 days and 2 days off. I`m easy going and flexible.
If you would prefer to stay without working/help, it`s 50 dollars per person per night and supply/prepare your own meals.
Or if you prefer less working hours - ie a work, pay, stay arrangement - work 2 hours pp per day and pay 25 pp per night and supply/prepare your own meals.

Some projects: gardening trimming and pruning, chain-sawing, fencing, general garden tidy, some building/carpentry work, electrical, plumbing, general labouring and house maintenance, cleaning; set-up a tipi for accommodation. In keeping with trying to be eco-friendly and self-sustaining, I`m trying to establish a small eco-retreat on a limited budget, so just need a helping hand.

In exchange I offer: In-house accommodation - a super large and warm tree-top loft bedroom with queen size bed (all linen/bedding/towels etc supplied), incorporating its own lounge area overlooking main lounge room and balcony overlooking the creek; or private cabin with lounge area and potbelly fire/stove; food, use of wifi, foxtel, landline phone (local and interstate calls only - note limited mobile ph service), shared amenities, local pickup/drop off; and of course laughter and fun times.

Breathe the freshest air and drink the purest natural water whilst picnicking, fishing, swimming or fossicking in the creek for a hidden treasure. Be delighted by a glimpse of a Platypus, the rare Azure Kingfisher, Wedge-tailed Eagle, Tasmanian Devil or the mighty Blue Giant Freshwater Crayfish. Take a guided bush walking tour with your host into the hills, valleys and along the creek. Pamper yourself with a bubble bath overlooking the garden and creek.

Indulge in Tasmanian produce and wines in front of the open fire or alfresco dine by the creek. Self cater from the open plan kitchen with its slow combustion stove and gas cooktop or enjoy your host`s home prepared meals.

A secluded get-away in the rainforest, the last 2km of private road is a bush track, so a bit rough, not suitable for low clearance vehicles - general vehicles and vans can get through in summer, deep winter is variable with occasional (adventurous) flooding. Local pickup/drop off to your vehicle (parked in safe place) or public transport stop (Rocky Cape Roadhouse) can be arranged.

Look forward to hearing from you.

1 friendly Shetland Sheepdog lives outside.
Your own friendly, well behaved dog is permitted (outside only).
I smoke, smoking permitted in some areas.
Mutual respect for both guest(s) and host.
