Josephine's Gallery & Kangaroo Orphanage (as seen on TV).

Now screening applicants for October and November, 2018.

HAVE YOU BEEN KISSED BY A KANGAROO?

We have a large Aboriginal art gallery with didgeridoos and artefacts, opal shop and the Kangaroo Orphanage in Coober Pedy, the OPAL capital of the world.

We are always looking for help with a variety of work - odd jobs, cleaning the yard, some light construction work, fencing, gardening, painting, helping out in the gallery, household jobs and/or general housekeeping. Being able to operate power tools, do some concreting or tiling and work without supervision will be considered a big asset. There is always something that needs doing around the place. Your working hours vary according to the weather, averaging approximately 5 hours per day with plenty of time off to explore Coober Pedy. Time allowing (and commitment from our helpers) we will also take you on a 'tour' of some interesting places in the region.

You need to have a good sense of humour, be prepared to laugh a lot and be prepared to live with kangaroos jumping around the house and any other animals we have in care at the time! Currently we have 4 birds (2 Cockatiels, 1 Nankeen Kestrel, a Galah called Peter), 3 bearded dragons and 4 adult kangaroos and 5 kangaroo joeys (babies) and a wombat joey. We just never know what animal will be brought into us next. We sometimes have emus, echidnas and wombats as well.

You will live with us as part of our family. Our home is very small so your accommodation will be an airconditioned caravan which is basic and private. It has a double bed and 1 single beds and you will share our bathroom. All meals are included. Great food. FREE WIFI.

Sorry, NO VEGETARIANS.

Unfortunately we are not multi lingual only being able to converse in English, Australian and kangaroo. Therefore you need to have good English.

Free didgeridoo lessons.

PS: If you think you have any special skills that may be of a big help - carpenter, plumber, builder, electrician, et cetera, let us know.

Please check our location before applying.

We are located half way between Adelaide and Alice Springs on the main highway (Stuart Highway).

Greyhound bus service to Coober Pedy from Alice Springs and from Adelaide daily.

Rex Airlines flies into Coober Pedy airport daily but only from Adelaide.
