Every March we recruit our volunteers for our upcoming summer season. We especially welcome volunteers coming from a wide variety of cultural environments.

Our international summer school and holistic centre, with its three autonomous campuses, offers workshops, retreats, workcamps and living-in-community experience at our three campuses during the summer months in Greece between early May and mid October. Our mission is basically educational: holistic education, which we teach through action learning. We operate as a seasonal but authentic ecovillage, sharing all the values of the international ecovillage movement, of which we are an associate member.

The staff at Kalikalos is made up entirely of volunteers who come for periods ranging from 2 to 16 weeks. Ideally we like our staff volunteers to have some prior community living/working experience, or at least a keen interest in social change and sustainability. Volunteers receive accommodation and meals (vegetarian) in exchange for about 35 hr of work per week, with one full day off to enjoy the beautiful Pelion peninsula with its gorgeous beaches and fantastic opportunities for hiking the ancient donkey paths.

Although many volunteers here tend to focus their activities on the organic vegetable gardens, they often find themselves expanding into the other areas of service, such as building and maintenance, vegetarian cookery, homecare, alternative technology, etc. that the project offers. As we operate as a full community, everyone here--staff, guests and workshop participants--help with the cooking, cleaning and centre maintenance.

We begin every season in early May with a four week workcamp where skills in building, carpentry, gardening, vegetarian cookery, decorating and DIY would be very useful to us. The season continues through the summer, ending with a second workcamp, where similar skills are useful, in late September: this year from 15 Sept - 6 Oct.
